Can this card be upgraded to 512mb or will I need to replace the card itself? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction so I can order one? I've searched all over the web and can't seem to find any at any of the E-tailers.

Sorry for not being clear. I have a Toshiba X205-S9349. Toshiba's website doesn't show any parts listings for sale.

    Thanks,

No,its 256Mb maximum, although in Vista it might show up as more than that.If you have XP, 256mb max it is.
The thing is, the 8700MGT has a 128bit ring bus so having more memory than 256 won`t help it ,since at higher resolutions it will be crippled.
You can try OCing it and get the best results out of the card.
Video memory means so little, whereas core and memory frequencies determine in-game results.

No, not positive, however I see from searching online that the newer X205 series uses the same motherboard and chipset as my current rig does.......and some come with a 512MB version of the 8700M GT (again, mine's a 112MB 8700M GT) and some others have Dual 8600M's in SLI config so I just assumed it was some sort of a socketed type of setup.

Thanks for the 128 info...........so does that mean I wouldn't see any performance increase at all from the 512MB version of the same card? I am computer stupid beyond what I've been able to find online, so over clocking anything is beyond my abilities at this point.

You can't upgrade that graphics card as noted, you are stuck with what you have.

You won't see a difference in performance increasing memory size.

    1) the 8700m in the x205 series IS a separate card, so it is theoretically possible... but the interface is proprietary and there is nothing worth upgrading to that Toshiba makes right now.

We are not talking "easily" upgradeable by any means even if something comes out as a true upgrade for an x205 would include a BIOS upgrade and a physical upgrade which basically requires takign the whole laptop apart.

    2) Toshiba didn't ship a 112MB x205-9349 model 8700m or even a 128MB model to my knowledge. (someone correct me if I am wrong) There is only the 256MB model, which is all the 8700m really needs. Some programs dont count the video RAM correctly... I've had many say I have 240MB or even 215MB... If all programs tell you 128MB, (and the product sold to you was supposed to have 256MB) then it is possible you have a defective 8700, which might be replaced by warranty.

    3) 512MB is not really much of an upgrade over 256MB and isn't worth the trouble even if you do somehow have a 128MB version. Even if you could do all that, you'd spend a good chunk of money and time and risk destroying the laptop and quite frankly just OC'ing it a liuttle would be a MUCH bigger boost in performance.
As others have noted, the amount of Video RAM isn't as big of a deal as core/shader clocks.

That's correct, the 8700M-GT was only shipped in 256MB and 512MB variants.

The 8700m only has a 128-bit memory interface. Capable of using only 256mb anyways. This has been discussed many times... with a 128bit interface is not capable of using the 512mb , seems pointless to get 512mb =)

Thanks for all the advice.............KernalPanic has been helping me try to figure out this over clocking business via PM. Trying that since it appears to be the best choice.
