I was wondering if anyone knows whether the 8700M GT would be available in a 15.4" notebook.. If so, I'd rather wait for one, but if that's not going to be the case, I'd like to buy a laptop with the 8600M GT sooner.

Well right now the only 15.4in laptop that has a possibility for upgradeable graphics is the Asus C90s but it can only take video cards that are MXM-II(standard for upgradeable NV cards) thats under 25w TDP. The 8700m is suppose to have a TDP that is higher then 25w(i dont know the exact number) so the card probably wont work but the 8 800m series suppose to have a ~22W TDP so that could be a possibility but we wont know for sure if it will work in the C90s untill it actually comes out and tested.

8800M eh? That sounds like it's worth waiting for. Is there any ETA on the new GeForce-M 8000s?

I have a really hard time believing the "8800s" will only use 22 watts. A REALLY hard time. But hey, if it actually happens, that would be pretty freakin sweet. Do you have any sources?

    More likely 35W+

Yeah, I doubt we'll see any 8700M/8800M in a 15.4''. At best, this gen, we'll see an 8600M GTS or 8650M or something along those lines.

My source is Gophn. Just search for "Asus C90s(8800m)" and you should see some of his post. He know a thing or two about MXM and upgradable graphics as well as how to care for gaming beasts ;). But if 8800s does have a 22w i will definitely peform less then the desktop GPU(most laptop GPU peform less then their desktop counterparts) and might be crippled in other ways(reduce mem bus/under clocked). But since i dont think the mobile 8800m is out yet we cant tell for sure but expect the upgrade to be pricey.

Hopefully we will learn more in August or later.

Also the 17in Clevo 570ru and Clevo D900c(8800m+SLI=very nice) are expected to be refreshed with the 8700m/8800m... hopefully

even though 8800m will be 22watts, I hihgly doubt that we'll see it in 15.4 inch laptops.

Even if the 8800m is under 22w you still gotta consider the size constraints.

If Dell-ienware did that, the prices of the laptops would sky rocket from the already existing high prices. I stopped even caring about Alienwares...they only got worse after Dell gained ownership.

agreed, you could easily build the same thing somewhere else for 1000 dollars less
