I'm looking for laptops that have the 8700M GT to see how much they are roughly to help me with deciding whether or not to get the 8600M GT/8700M GT.

So far the only ones I have found are the Clevo/Sager 5970RU and an Alienware, can't remember the model. I'm not even looking at laptops that are like $2,200 + as that is out of my budget. So preferably under or around $2,000. I don't mind barebones as they usually come out cheaper, there is just something I don't like about the Clevo equivalent to the 5970RU. The 8600M GT I was looking at was the MSI MS-1719 barebones.

Toshiba x205 is also an alternative with 8700GT. You can find it at some places below $1800. I'm not sure about the quality of the notebook, so you may want to research that.

The Toshiba X205-S7483 is great option. It is currently priced at $1500 on Best Buy's website but BB occasionally has deals so you may be able to get it for less.

Also fill out the FAQ so that we can help you better.

Now, the XPS M1330 doesn't have the 8700M GT nor any other 13.3" notebook, so stop making similar posts... and that's not for the first time.

The XPS M1730 has the 8700M SLI and it's out of his budget.

Last time I checked stores there were two versions of Dell XPS 1330, one with Quadro NVS 135M 256MB and second with 8700M GT. That's way I write this way, not to make (or pay, I forget the exact phrase) your attention... :p
2300e in Serbia, and in SAD/Western Europe is certainly cheper, which fits in his budgets.

Err, and you were on Mars last time when you checked, right?

The Dell XPS M1330 has never had the Quadro NVS 135M nor the 8700M GT and it will never have those cards too...

And please do some research before making ridiculous posts next time.

The Toshiba X205 is a pretty thick monster. you may want to expect until January when 2200 $ will get you a laptop with 8800M GTX !. Like an alienware or a Sager. And I mean it`s worth the wait...

I worked on one of those Toshiba laptops at work and it seemed a little too thick for my tastes, and I don't like the red.

    1) What is your budget? - $1500-$2000 Would like to keep under $1700-1800 though. $2000 is an extreme push on the budget.

    2) What size notebook would you prefer? - I would prefer a 17" with a full keyboard (Numpad)

    3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in. - United States

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? - Does not really matter to me as long as its good build quality, no cheap flexing plastic etc...

    5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? - Would be using for college in a couple of years, But for now to use on weekends when we go out of town to do some gaming (I'm not wanting to play Crysis with full settings, but being able to play C&C 3, Oblivion, FEAR while I'm in the middle of nowhere), browse the internet (Via Verizon/Cingular PC Card), watch movies, listen to music.

    6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? - Both

    7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? - Yes, some RTS' and FPS', not looking for full settings just enough to look good. FEAR, C&C 3, Oblivion, HL2

    8) How many hours of battery life do you need? - The more the better but no less then 2.5 - 3

    9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? - No

    10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc. - XP Pro or Vista Ultimate. Already have a license through work so do not need to buy with laptop.

    11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen? - Widescreen

    12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? - Either WSXGA+ (1680x1050) or WUSXGA (1920x1200) Would highly prefer the WUSXGA though

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? - Would like glossy, but if there is an option that is only matte then post it, I may be willing to change that opinion

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? - Yes, no extravagant colors/designs, preferably all black.

    15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? - Within the month, 4-5 years

    16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB?
    - 160-250

    17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive? - Yes, DVD-RW

I don't want a laptop that is real thick. I'm not expecting it to be .5 Inches but nothing extremely thick. I have pretty good experience with PCs, Been working on them at a local repair type place for 2 years (I'm only 17). If there's something I can't figure out on my own I ask a co-worker or look it up on the net and keep trying to fix it so I'm not afraid of a challenge.

I have actually been looking into barebones laptops as they seemed to come out considerably cheaper by buying the processor, ram, hdd off of Newegg. It has to be the Intel Santa Rosa (I think that's what it is) platform, uses the T7100/T7300/T7500/T7700. I was liking the MSI MS-1719 but then read about its 8600GT only being DDR2 and that it was a good performer but not great and then started looking for 8700GT laptops since they use DDR3 and are considerably better performers. If I can't find one in the price range that I like with a 8700GT then I'll probably go with the MS-1719 as I have it configured right around $1500

    barebones w 1920x1200 - 988 - RKComputer
    T7500 - 249.99 - Newegg
    250GB WD - 157.99 - Newegg
    Corsair 2GB DDR2 667 - 40.99 - Newegg
    Intel 3945 - 45 - RKComputer

    Total - 1481.97

If you need any more information let me know.

    Well, ASUS G1S has the 8600GT with DDR3 memory....check this out :
    http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g1sa1-ensemble-custom-gaming-notebook-p-2010.html?wconfigure=yes
I know it`s not 17` , but this ASUS comes with 2 year GLOBAl warranty, and 1 year accidental replacement... Being a 15.4 inch it`s much more portable than a 17` and it has the 8600GT with DDR3 memory.
The reason I am suggesting this one is because it will fit your price perfectly.
If you can go higher...well,the Toshiba X205 with the 8700GT is pretty close in price, but it`s thick. You can look for pictures and see it for yourself.
However if you are looking for future proof,as I said, wait until December 6th and see what Sager is offering...

EDIT : I just noticed your idea about the MSI 17 inch... well here you go http://www.xoticpc.com/ms1719-custom-notebook-p-1610.html?wconfigure=yes

    please stay on topic.

dell has never given the option of a 8700gt on the xps 1330. so if does exist it would have to be specially customized by someone else other than dell.

Well somehow in my browsing of laptops for 5 hours I came across this and it has become very appealing. I have decided to forget about the numpad requirement as that severely limits my options. I found the Asus G2S-A1.

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3789

What's everybody's opinion on this laptop? I plan to get the Intel Turbo memory. How hard is it to find XP drivers for this? Just in case I don't like Vista all that much. Where can I order an extra battery later on down the road if I want to?

Do you have easy access to all the components? The processor, ram, hdd, mini pci-e etc...?

    I found it on Newegg for $1799.99 - T7500, 2GB, 160GB 5400RPM
Found it on XoticPc with the exact same configuration except with the Intel Turbo memory for $1812.93
Found it on GenTech for $1839 with the same configuration as Newegg.

So it looks like XoticPc is the best choice. How is everybody's experience with them?

Somebody please tell me you can shut off those lights too.

Well , I worked with them, I`m a happy satisfied customer, as many on the forum will tell you.
The lights should be able to be turned off as far as I know. If not, cover them with a sticker or something :p

Just keep in mind (for right now at least) when you venture into 8700 and higher territory you're getting out of the laptop region and moving into the desktop replacement region.

The 8700 & 8800 are the most powerful GPU's and they come in big boxes.

Pretty happy with my x205 actually, but if its not your style, then I thought HP has a lighter and thinner model in their professional series with a Quadro equivalent to the 8700.

You will have to use some driver trickery to get it perform as a Geforce 8700 instead of the Quadro, but it isn't too difficult, and you will get the professional level laptop.
(Granted, you are going to pay a bit more as well, but that's par for the course.)

Mad Hater has right. Its true about dell 1330(has 8700 graphic card) in our country,I dont know if it is commercial or truth because 13 inch is too small for what I am looking for and that is real gaming rig :)

hmm not that i'm always right but you might have a look on hp compaq 8710p. in 1440x900 flavor it comes with NVS320 which basically is the 8700GT rebranded. you can find a review of that beast here. it's priced really well too, so after foreseeable pricecuts it might get to the low $1700s For the moment it goes (here) for 5600,00 PLN = 1547,1751 EUR = 2264,4561 USD = 1100,3478 GBP = 2556,7274 CHF and it's with no promotions/best deals/best buys... ah the only "problem is that it lacks webcamera, but it has good battery (compared to other 17inchers), tpm + fingerprint reader... well take a look on it!

I was looking for essentially the same characteristics as the original poster, and the 8710p is what I ended up getting. My price limit was also $2000, which is what the price of this computer was when I bought it.

It's a 17 inch, but one of the lightest if not the lightest of the 17" out there.

I am very happy with the build quality and professional look of this business computer. I previously had another Compaq business computer that I was very happy with for 5 years.

I also like the fact that you get 3 years warranty, plus you can downgrade legally to XP Pro with the XP OS and drivers HP provides (so no searching for drivers, it's on all the disc). In the review above, you'll see that, with XP, the gaming performance of the 8700GT equivalent is the same whether you install the GeForce drivers or just leave it as it with the Quadro drivers.

    Good luck.

and i believe your 8710p is by far the best in terms of battery life among the bunch of rigs here presented... for example - how much do you get out of yours when working not playing? your answer might give the topic starter another point of view :D

Yes, you're right. According to PC World's review:

"Its battery life was tops for this class of laptop. Its 3.6-hour performance was 40 minutes longer than the 2.6-hour average, and it was the best of any currently tested 17-inch-screen notebook."
