When Im going to be getting a refurb m1730 from dell(maybe a sager 5793)
I just got into gaming and enjoy it. Not a fanatic but want to be able to play the latest games. So far Ive only played orange box on my 1530 with 8400gs. I know the 8400 can not play many of the latest games a decent settings. My question is do I need to get the 8800 or save a decent amount of money and get a better spec ed computer with the 8700. Both are sli on the 1730
Again I know the 8800 is a better gpu but is the 8700 sufficient. Any thoughts?
Thanks

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
8700 is sufficient if you ask.But 8800sli blows it away.

8700 is a enthuasiast class wannabe... dun get that crap. It's better to stick with 1 8800 instead of 8700 in SLI.
-
Dam you guys. I new that was going to be the answerer
Its hard to find the 8800 refurb but they do come up

Look into Gateway P-FX series with the 8800GTS for 1300 if you're on a tight budget!
-
single 8800 card will easily beat 8700 sli.
-
^^^such a huge difference.

May I suggest getting a desktop for gaming if you don't have the money to burn for a gaming laptop? You get a lot more performance for lower price than a gaming laptop.
-
Im going to suggest the Gateway in my sig, with the 8800m GTS, it is much better then 8700m SLI
-
well, if you have a good deal on the SLI 8700 like some discount or something, and you arent gonna game on high resolution, SLI 8700 is still sufficient, otherwise from what i see you need dx10 so. get a 8800 series

IMO, one 8800M will be better than SLI 8700M, anyone remember DFTrance's rant on SLI shuttering in games?
-
single 8800m gtx will 8700m gt sli. two 8800m gtx will DECIMATE the 8700ms. they are not even the same class.
-
The 8700M GT SLI scores about 8500points in 3dmark, 1 8800M GTX scores over 9000.
Also, SI 8800MGTX scores over 12-13000 points.
While the 8700M GT SLI wouldbe ok for another year for high res gaming, after that it would start to wear off.
I fully recommend getting a system with AT LEAST 1 8800M GTX, either a Sager 5793 or a 9262. -
