so im back from my 10 day vacation... and i come back ready to order my laptop for college, I KNO its late, and NObody seems to have the 8700s in the D900 yet, when just before i left i made numorous fone calls to many companies assuring me they would be ready in a day or two. Ten days later and im disappointed to see no new update. I understand these are SALES representatives, but this is just too much, does any1 here have info on the 8700 besides it being in the Toshiba? The way technology moves i was expecting to sit down and see something totally new out! lol

Well, i think it's in one of the sagers or clevos.

Also, there is no such thing as an 8800 notebook graphics card. Its now an 8700 GTX Ultra

Sorry to be the bearer or bad news

Dude. It's going to be a mad rush to get your laptop before school starts. You're hardcore. :D

You really should be seeing that card any day now! I don't know why they weren't out at the first of the month.

Otherwise, I really hope you aren't going to be lugging around this gaming rig. I tried doing it with an Alienware 7700 (Which is a Clevo D900T) and started feeling the bulk. I didn't care that it was 12.4 pounds, it was just so LARGE and in my way all of the time, except when it was placed on a proper desk on lifesupport (AC power). Then again, apparently modern desktop replacements are only about 8 pounds (psh, weaklings) and if they aren't as BIG AND BULKY as my old D900T, then you have a chance.

I doubt you plan on lugging it to class anyway, just wanted to share my experiences.

In a tiny University room you will probably have to decide between a bed or your 17" notebook :D

I went for the notebook once. You don't need a heater once you buy one of these, that's a plus.

haha.. so true, i have that problem with my current desktop, but at least im apartment style dorm, more room! and it rele wont be leaving my room much (very little), thus i need to put a replacement for a desktop thus dubbed "desketop replacement"
btw... called some companies, they act like they dont kno wat im talkin about.. and that it was p;ushed back or sumtin, "wait till next week", "its less powerful anyway", they say these things like im some computer ignorant person, i wish i could speak to the guy who actually builds them, cuz maybe he'll kno a thing or two without thinking... business, money, money!

My D901C with dual 7950GTX's puts out very little heat. I honestly expected it to be much hotter.

If you want 8700M GT's in SLi then you might want to look at the XPS 1730

I'm patiently waiting on the XPS M1730. I know it will perform like a beast, but the appearance is very disappointing. I hope those pictures of it were fake because if the same people who made the M1330, are designing the 1730...why would they make one look amazing and one look like...crap?

    The 1730... u guess who...
i do agree the picture is fake. (Well maybe they ll give asus another contract on the 1730..ot better yet, the M1540...)

Anyone think the company's are holding back on the 8700's so they can get rid of built up stock at a better price? And I don't just mean at the level of a company like Dell but maybe even Nvidia. Once they release the 8700's (wide release) the price of 8600's drop. When they are released the 8700's become the the 8600's and the 8600's become the 8400's and so on and so on and........... This is a mad feeding time for these company's w/students going back to school, also to be fair you do not retool and modify units at peak production times in any industry. It is like shooting fish in the barrel right now. When it dies down they show a new card to boost sales, any MBA students have an opinion?

    No you wouldn't...Its hideous!

I think the M1330 escaped Dell's designers, since its designed and built by Asus.

    +1
Dell should fire all their designers ,give the contract to other ppl who knows how to design, use the extra salary from the fried designer to employ more ppl to work with customer service (or attend customer service lessons).
I now strongly believe that the 8700M are actually the 8600 GTS.

So? Just cover it up whenever you're not using it, you only look at the screen anyway and unless they can make a hideous locked wallpaper its not a problem

wow... m1730? interesting, ive been overlooking dell apparently as i do not rele follow them much, i usually sway toward custom notebook resellers since im into high-end gaming laptops, which is why i actually went rite toward the resellers of the D900, also to Wu jen, i kno 7950s aint that much heat but the 8700s arent that far behind them but it will have DX10, and im usin this for the next 4 years.. thats all or else 7950s would obviously be top choice.
oh god... im NOT getting my laptop by the 26th... :( i didnt even order it...

Edit:adding: just saw the 1730... oh GOD wtf were they thinking....

Bah, you'd think that by getting an m9750 people would refrain from even putting me anywhere near the 1730. No way. That thing should only be handled by the scary kid from The Omen
