So, my 8710w is putting out a TON of heat while playing games. It idles at around 55-60c, and while playing games (without any kind of cooler) it outputs at around 88-90c.
I have both an fx1600m and an fx3600m card and both of them give me the same results.
Now, you 8710w users: do you have this problem as well when playing games?
-
when was the last time you cleaned out the vents and fans?
if never, then thats why.
you are supposed to regularly clean out the dust of a performance notebook monthly. -
It's a new laptop, less than 3 weeks old. I last cleaned out the vents this morning. They were spotless.
-
I have to put mine on a cooler. Now you mean the GPu temp right? Because that's the one puts out most of the heat. When I play game, it goes up 69C or so.
-
if thats the case... then you should look at the thermal compound for the videocard.
it might need re-application. -
I re-applied the thermal. Arctic Silver.
I had to double-check to make sure the gpu was making proper contact with the copper block.
I have the CPU undervolted, and I even undervolted the 3600m and underclocked it slightly.
This is making me pull my hair out. Is it the card, or is it something else? I noticed that the copper block has a crack in it, but that shouldn't affect temps by +20 deg now should it?
I'd prefer temps like Han gets, but this is rediculous. -
i noticed that the heatpads on the heatsink dont match up on the card's memory chips. would this have a large effect on heat dispersion?
-
-
On the edge of the copper block. I'll post pics of it in a bit.
-
How did you undervolt the GPU?
-
-
must be something to do with the heatsink design of the laptop, my m6300 used to run (currently needs a clean/new thermal paste) 45deg at idle (no fan) - fx1600

Ok, I've finally taken the time ti dissasemble this compy for pictures. Attached is a picture of the hairline cracks in the heat sink:
Not a great pictures, but you can see the cracking on the bottom left of the block.
