Hi, i just got my new Gateway P-6860 FX from Best Buy, after the old one was a lemon and didnt work right. I ran a 3DMark06 and this is what i got.

Its alright i guess, but i was looking at others benchmarks and some were 300+ more then mine right out of the box.. like mine is. So, on with my questions.
in Call of Duty 1, I get about 250-400 fps (Big range, i know) A friend of mine just bought a 8600 GT (Not that good of a card for gaming) and yet, hes getting a minimum of 300 fps. Why is this? Is it just because 8800's are not good running older games or what?
and, In Call of Duty 4, most people say they run everything on max graphics and 1440x900 Res and never get below 50 fps. I get below 50 fps when im at 'optimal system settings'. I dont know how to fix this. Oh, and also, in Call of Duty 4, i cant see the Camo, any camo, on any gun. This saddens me =[
Help with any of these things would be great.
I was thinking it might have something to do with my nVidia settings? Maybe not. If someone who plays CoD4 with good fps max gfx could show or tell me there nvidia settings that would be great.
More questions lol.
My Vista index score is a 4.5 for ram and a 4.8 for the HD. If i get faster ram, would it help me get better fps in games? If so what ram can/should i get. And, would a second, faster hard drive help me at all?
Thanks for any answers you can give me.

Who cares about Vista score.
As far as 3DMark, it looks fine.
And when running CoD4, make sure you are on "High Performance" mode, and that your GPU isn't downclocking. Try updating your video drivers.
No, a faster HDD won't improve framerates. -
It is one of two things.
1. Your processor isn't as fast as your friend's processor.
2. You need newer video drivers. Refer to the stickied post above for more information on how to update video drivers. I'd suggest the laptopvideo2go.com method. -
I would definitely update to the newest graphic drivers.
-
And what would the newest driver be?
-
Take your pick, find one that works the best for the games you play. Don't base your performance off of 3dmark and vista mark, test actual games.

lol i cant just pick one =[ What one do you guys use and what games do you play if any?
-
177.66 is what I use and find to be the best. But YMMV
I play Crysis, COD4, Bioshock, CSS, Roller Coaster Tycoon Platinum (I'm hardcore), you name it. -
then that is what i will use =]
-
Good call.
-

I take it you didnt read the driver thread on how to uninstall. Hang on, Ill get the link for you.
EDIT: Here -
lol i did read the driver thread. But ill try it again. Thanks =]
-
Hmm. Well if you followed that, then you should be good. Not sure what could be goin on. I would definitely try it again.
-
haha i think i did it! How can i check my driver version to make sure? And what should it say :-S I ended up installing 177.76 or something like that cuse the link you sent me was xp and i got some error.
-
Go into the Nvidia Control panel and click system info.
-
To OP, you scored 200 points higher than mine out of the box. I think your system is in good shape and just needs a driver update.
-
With the new driver, it went down say, 75 points. Should i go back to the stock driver?
-
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
No, a variance of a up to a couple hundred between runs is totally normal.
-
i just got done playing cod4 and were getting frame rates around 80+. i am using the 177.73 drivers and my score is around what you got.
-
N00d13s mind posting your settings? cause Original poster would appreciate that i guess.
-
Just talked to the OP on Xfire, and we got it working!
He had the Nvidia Control Panel set to "performance". We set it to "3D App Control".
He was also running CoD4 at 1024x768 4x AA. Bumped it up to native, and he is up and over 60FPS! -
Isnt Performance supposed to get more FPS? lol
-
You would think, but letting the Application control usually works best.
-
Everyone should give KGann +rep . Hes helped me a lot, and i know im not the easiest person to help =]
-
No problem man, and no need to rep, that's what we're here for!
-
I give thanks to all of you, including the OP and the Dook, KGann, everyone. For every OP that posts, there are many of us with the same questions who benefit from the discussion. I'm going to take a look at my P172S-FX stock driver and may upgrade as well. Hopefully I won't need to post with a question/problem. Many thanks.

Hope it goes well, and if you need any help, feel free to ask!
