The 8800m G TS is weaker than the 8800m GTX, which is equivalent to a 9800m GT.

    64 unified shaders, versus 96.

It looks to me like he's asking whether the 8800 GS desktop card is better or worse than the 9800M GT laptop card.

nvidia is only trying to rip you off by changing the card numbers around.

    They are both weak cards.

Weak cards? The 9800m GT is the best you can get in a laptop right now. (Until the GTX is released.)

As I already said, it matches your Alienware's 8800m GTX.

^^ exactly, the 8800M GTX performs (and has the same specs) the same as the 9800M GT.

Effectively, yes, though apparently there are some minor optimizations.

Still, it's going for a lower price, so who can complain?

Tianxia: The 8800 GT's performance is compairable to the 9600 GT(64spu's).
There's alot more to these things than numbers... not that i know everything :D

The 9800m GT, 8800 GT, 9600 GT, 8800m GTX should all be in the same league and ahead of the 8800 GS.

wow a whole a lot of confusions. he is asking between the 8800gs (9600gso) vs a mobile 9800m gt. as far as i know, the 8800gs is a sub 10000 3dmark06 card and I would think the 9800m gt is better. but there is really no comaprison, one been a desktop and the other been a mobile card

As well as a die shrink. The 9XXX series are rebranded shrunk 8XXX series with slightly higher clocks.

Funny how people think their machines are Godlike,

on the topic.. the 9800gt should be an equal to a desktop 8800GTS 640mb, so i think its a little more better than a desktop 8800gs ( 10 -13% ) but when Oced, the 8800gs may win, because its a very big Overclocker.

The 9800M GT = 8800M GTX. It's the same card with minor firmware and vBios mods.
The 8800 GS, if you`re referring to the desktop card,is a little slower or close to the 9800M GT, laptop card.

Everyone seems to forget the die shrink from 65 to 55nm so less heat.

3dmark is a bad way to compare as there are more than just the GPU being tested.

I saw the sig and laughed :D

    They're both 65nm parts. G80 was 80nm, G92 is 65. The only nVidia parts that are 55nm are 9600 GT+, 9800 GT+ 9800 GTX+.

just as a minor conclusion and revival of this thread..because I AM confused.

The 9800gt(MOBILE) is better, performance-wise, than the 8800gtx(MOBILE)?
I'm getting back into the mobile market and need a gaming lappy for Christmas, and NEED to know which to get.
