According to the inquirer:
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/10/25/nvidia-g92-enter-notebook
I expect Toshiba and Dell to be first to market, followed by Clevo/Sager.

actually, i think it will be the other way around.
not a very legit source, but interesting -
Toshiba (x205) beat Clevo to market with the 8700M GT by a month or two.
The inquirer has been a fairly good source of info over the past year. Sure, you could wait until tomorrow for Fudzilla and/or Engadget to report the same... -
yes i realize that, i just think it will be the other way around
-
lol wasnt that available a long time ago?
-
We will see. Inquirer tends to report verbal diarrhea without any real sources to back it up. It's the tabloid of technical information.
-
I see some mention that the replacement for the Nvidia's 8800 card
will be a 8900 card.
According to Maximum P C 2008 Tech Preview the new high end processor
is code named G92. It says its more than a mere dieshrink of the 8800.
Nvidia engineers have supposedly reworked many features in there quest
to create a GPU that's significantly more powerful than the current king of
the hill, the 8800 Ultra. All this according to Maximum P C. -
So what does this mean for notebook PC's?
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Nothing new this was known that the 8800m was coming out novermeber, early december. Inquirer said over the summer which I knew was downright bs.
-
people who are buying 7950 GTX right now should rethink their purchases?
-
According to Inquirer 8800M GTX eat 35W & It will be MXM2 Type card?
I love to see Acer 5920 with 8800M GTX -

Well, according to The Inquirer the 8800GT and 8800M GTX is the G92 core. The enhancements are the 65nm die shrink, the incorporation the I/O chip that they previously had to produce as a separate chip because there was no room, the incorporation of the VP2 video processing engine that lower-end chips already had, and PCIe 2.0 support for the desktop versions at least. -
They just say MXM. If it's 35W, then that means it's Type III at least, right? Possibly Type IV or HE even.

What can I say, I have been reading the INQ along with TheRegister for a few years now, and they openly admit when something is rumour, their ratio of being accurate on news is very high IMHO
especially hardware related items.
it would be nice to see a 256/320 BIT card for notebooks in the current gen, itwould be the perfect partner for santa rosa platforms.
personally I have been waiting for something like this, for my upgrade to a new machine -
Did some google and here's what i found. Link.
Below are all originally from the link.
As you can see in the chart above, each module varies in physical size, max power consumption, memory configuration and maximum GPU size. MXM-I is designed for entry-level notebooks, MXM-II for medium form factors with somewhat higher performance, and MXM-III is designed for high-performance systems. MXM-I and MXM-II slots were also designed with the same thermal considerations in mind, but MXM-III slots will be equipped with beefier cooling solutions. At a maximum of 35W for an MXM-III slot, we obviously won't be seeing the power-hungry GeForce 6800 Ultra populating an MXM module anytime soon, but NVIDIA did tell us that this initiative will facilitate the introduction of their GeForce Go 6 Series of mobile GPUs derived from the NV40 architecture. I'm sure we'll have some more information regarding mobile NV40 derivatives as it becomes available...
But hey, its G82 that eat up to 35W so i wonder if that would be same as G92.
[EDIT]
Just notice that the article is pretty old but still, it provide some reference for us and i believe the table is pretty reliable. -
whats the power consuption of 7950 gtx ?
the 8800 xxx must be the same (aprox)... -
Every news source said "over the summer." Guess what? They were all right. Except they were refering to the 8700M GT which was codenamed/prenamed 8800M GS. (Toshiba and Clevo called it that in their specs this summer)
Matter fo fact, apparently the 8700M GT is still named 8800M GS. Dell's XPS M1730's spec sheet lists it as that. -
At this point I would love to see any notebook with an 8800m GTX lol.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
No inquirer said 8800m over the summer. I remember specifically because this was after the 8700 was already announced by nvidia. -
I remember this as well because it almost stopped from getting my current laptop. Not everything they publish is off target, but enough of their news is inaccurate to make you think twice.
End of November would make sense so they can introduce it for the Christmas season - whether they actually make it in time, who knows. I don't really care about the time leading up to it until someone actually starts making it. -
I don't want it to appear that I'm defending "the inquirer" but here's the article to which you refer: (dated June 3,2007)
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/06/03/nvidia-prepares-8800-for-notebooks
To set the record straight...
That article is refering to the 8700m as ONE of the chips to come out summer 07. The NB8E GS was the 8700M GT's designation. The rest of the article points to a road map of 8M series chips. It doesn't say that ALL of them would be out. Anyway, that designation has been flying around since the Cebit show on March of '07.
Nvidia officially annouced the 8700M GT on June 13th, 2007. 10 days later.
Fudzilla and Laptoping on the other hand, rumored that the 8800M GTX would be out by summer time. That article is found here:
http://laptoping.com/nvidia-geforce-8800m.html
Though they sourced it from the inquirer, they titled it all the more speculatively by saying ALL chips would be out by summer. But The Inquirer never said that.
Fudzilla later cleared things up with this article:
http://laptoping.com/category/laptop-graphics-card/
To sum up, Inquirer has been correct on this matter. We have yet to see the NB8E GTX, NB8E SE which were a part of the roadmap which The Inquirer, among others, have reported to be in the pipeline/roadmap.
The 8800M GS/NB8E GS is the 8700M GT.
Proof? Scroll down to the video section of the following spec sheet.

Wooow at last
if i found any 8800 compatible with my laptop i will upgrade at once
imagine cysis at highest resolution on a laptop>>>WoW
Thankx for the news -
What company do you think will release it first?
-
will the 8800 be available for the asus c90s?
-
i dont belive it will... c90 its a mxmII type card wth power consuption of 25 W MAX (if i remember)...
-

^ Its possible if there are different versions of the 8800.

If I wanted to get a laptop for lets say < $1500, I currently planned on getting the IFL90, and was stuck between that the G1S and the C90, would it be better to just get the IFL, or should I wait in hopes the C90 can hold this powerhouse of a graphics card...Or hope that maybe HP will get a bump up in the graphics card dept.
-TNK -
get the g1s theres no way this card will ever work with a c90. Though when the 9XXXX series is release you might be able to upgrade then.
-
I like to see ASUS G2 with 8800GTX
-
Surprised that this hasn't yet been pointed out, but the G92 core is being debuted on the 8800GT, which is scheduled to debut in two days, and ship in around 3 weeks. The 8800M (NB8-E) is based around the G92 core, with some modification to make it suitable for notebook applications.
-
The IFL90 and C90s most likely have the same chances for upgrade paths, as they both have MXM-II modular video cards. I wouldn't wait on HP if I were you, I'd go with the C90s or IFL90 (depending on your other needs and such).
I agree that the C90s most likely won't get a video card upgrade, though I'd still recommend it over the G1s as it has superior performance for a very competitive price.
Never gonna happen. -
I wish Asus would get serious about their 17" supposed 'Gaming' notebook, and upgrade it beyond the midrange gaming card it currently has. It would make so much more sense.....but no, they won't do that for god-knows-what reason.
The C90s may get a lower end version of the 8800M, possibly the GS (which is actually the 8700M GT, I think) or GT. The 35W TDP is only for the 8800M GTX. I remember a while back they were saying that a version of NB8-E (8800M) was going to have a 22W TDP, and that would probably be the highest end MXM II card out there, so it would fit into the C90s, IFL90, 5920, and whatever else. -
wasnt the 7900gs mxm II? i thought so, they could easily do the same with these cards with the shrunken die.
-
Nope, it wasn't. There was an Arima Special version, but that's not MXM.
-
ok it had TDP of 20 watts so it could have been MXM II..
-
I believe it was physically too large for MXM-II, that's why it was an Arima Special (same compatibility as MXM-II, but wider).
-
oh ok....well ill just shut up then
-
They did manage to fit a 7900GS into the 17" Z84Jp, which was MXM II, I believe. I doubt that could be done with the smaller 15.4" notebooks though.
-
Pretty sure that notebook was MXM-III, as Ice-Tea sold the type III 7900GS for it.
-
thats cool, thanks for the info
-
Would anyone by chance if these will fit in the AW m9750?
-
It probably will, since its using MXM III, I think. Maybe its MXM IV, but either way, the 8800M will fit.
-
How does one go about getting mobile cards individually? I wouldn't even know where to look.
Could someone point me to a 8700m that's being sold separately? I have the card already, I just wanna know hypothetically where I could get one if I wanted to purchase it, so I know how to do the same for the 8800m.
Thanks. -
Awesome, thanks
-
On Xoticpc's website, it states on there that you can buy the MXM cards from them but only by phone. When the 8800m shows up on the list of available cards for the Sager 5790, I'm just going to call them and see if I can order one, I already have $600 set aside for it, hopefully it wont cost that much though...
-
i think alienware is going to be the first ones to get it out since there a press announcement around the same time it's coming out and they haven't come out with a notebook with an 8xxxm card yet so there proubly waiting for most powerful card
-
alienware sells them individually i think, IceTea does, and possibly rjtech if your looking for cards.

I just noticed this on Apple's website:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imacmxmupdate10.html
It's a MXM firmware update for the late 2006 24" iMac. If that implies that the iMac uses MXM I wonder what type? It be interesting if someone could mod a 8800M GTX into the iMac, if the heat issues can be sorted out. -
Icetea? Do they have a site?
8800M GT/GTX coming late November...
