If one were to replace the DVD player in a Gateway P-6860FX with a Blu-Ray drive, will the current 8800M GTS graphics card handle it ??? What about the people that have the 8600M GT is that also Blu-Ray capable ?? Has anyone attempted this ?? Thanks for any info. God Bless![]()

of course it can handle it
-
i think the 8800m gts can play 10 Blu-Ray movies at the same time with 100fps ;P
-
All 8xxx mobile GPUs can play support HD
-
It's going to be much more dependent on the CPU than graphics card.

Yeah, just like how laughing gas helps an engine move a car faster. But if you don't have an engine to start with, all you'll be doing is going hysterical.

I did not disregard importance of CPU or anything. What I meant was it's always helpful to enable GPU acceleration in movie decoding. For DVD decoding, my CPU usage reduce from ~50% to ~30% with GPU acceleration enable.
-
Aren't ATI's new GPU's supposed to do pretty much 100% of the decoding?
-
LOL, that's like 4*fast forwarding
-
The geforce 8 have some high definition decoding offload, which should help the 1.66 C2D which would be too weak to do all the decoding on its own, but you will also need some video playback software that uses this advantage. And it is true that the amd cards decode more parts than the nvidia ones.

Hi.
I know this is a desktop card, but can anybody explain why my 8600GT is better
at HDDVD playback than a 8800GT, according to the picture on the back of my INNO3D card box.
Regards

the chart is too small

I've have the Gateway, and I've installed a Blue ray and HD-DVD player in it and both work just fine. The key is you'll have to buy some software to be able to play them, like Cyberlink or Nero8 with the HD plug-in.
-
or storm codec, lightest program out there but plays everything

that char is about the firsts 8800,the g 80 based, that didn't have all the video circuitory(the 8800gtx and ultra 768mb and the gts 640mb and 320mb). So the video playback was better on the 8600. But it is not the case for the 8800 g92based and to the 9800
-
And yeah, the G80 cards don't have PureVideoHD but the 8800M are G92 so yeah they have it
8800M GTS -----Blu-Ray capable ???
