I'm wondering which is the better resolution for this card. I am more interested in games like Oblivion, NWN2, and strategy games like World in Conflict, or the Total War series.

My feeling is that it will probably be able to handle games better at 1680x1050.

On the other hand, a year from now it might have trouble with newer games at that 1680x1050. In that case scaling down a 1920x1200 will probably result in a sharper image than scaling down the 1680x1050.

The card should just about max every detail at 1680 native resolution (not sure about World in Conflict though). It's also powerful enough to max slightly older games at 1920 native res. If this is the desktop card you're referring to then the users on that forum can better advise you since the notebook version is not yet released for pre-orders yet (I think).

I'm referring to the mobile version

So if it can handle 1680 is it better to get a native 1680 display rather than scale down a 1920 display?

Games look sharper on their native resolution, scaling down is normally for laptop owners with cards incapable of running games at decent settings at their native resolution. I suggest if that you're looking to upgrade in a year or 2 year's time then enjoy the higher native resolution since all games bar Crysis should have details maxed out at 1920. If you're looking to keep your laptop for a while longer then 1680 is a more conservative choice.

Get 1680x1050 and play natively for a longer time than getting 1920x1200. The 8800M GTX isn´t that powerful, it is equal to a 8800GTS desktop card. But this card will surely start to struggle even next year at 1680x1050 with games coming out. It is the nature of GPU´s.

If you don't mind scaling down settings, definitely go for 1920x1200. It should be able to handle all games for at least a year and a half at that resolution without problems.

If you don't have a need for the 1920 resolution outside of gaming, then I'd go for the lower resolution as well.

1920x1200 scales excellently down to 1280x800 and (if you can manage it) 960x600 (I'm thinking for games 2-3 years away). With such a high native res, scaling introduces less artifacts than you might expect. Scale down from 1680x1050 though, and you'll notice to difference.

Better to go with 1920x1200, IMHO.

uh, scaling down from native res causes the picture to not look as sharp as it should be...

Im going for 1920x1200 ... anyway theres always a way to keep the same ratio, yes i know it lower the screen display... (gpu setting)

If a somekind of new crysis came out next year we wont be able to play with it at 1920 maybe not even 1680!

Its better scaling down from 1920 than 1680...

im still playing starcraft and its in 640 :)

yes but scaling down from a higher res...like 1920x1200 to 1280x800 doesnt cause as much distortion as it would from 1680x1050 to 1280x800.
