I am facing a overheat problem with my XPS M1730 with 8800SLI.
It goes upto 80 degree while just running Internet and Word processing with absolutely no gaming. I am using the official Nvidia 179 drivers.
Any help?

you sure those drivers support SLI?
from the NVIDIA driver download page:
the dell update thing just says "Installing this driver without the latest Dell SBIOS may cause the system fan noise to become more noticeable." which isnt your problem, but heres the link to try it anyway:
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/recommended_software_updates.html
if that doesnt solve it, go back to the dell drivers. use driversweeper in between uninstalling the these drivers and reinstalling the dell drivers. makes a difference to performance. or you could uninstall the NVIDIA drivers, use driver sweeper to clean all bits, then reinstall NVIDIAs drivers to see if that helps.
hope you get it sorted. -

No, it doesnot work.
I have a M1730 so basically the bios update is not for me.
Also the driver Im using is the official 8800m SLI Nvidia Driver. -

what are you getting when you game?

When was the last time you got the dust out of your laptop. Get a can of compressed air and blow it into the openings where your fans are. You will probably then have dust shooting out of your laptop. Also make sure the laptop is off.
Also if you don't have a cooler keep the rear of your laptop raised with a couple of bottlecaps or something.
There is also a program called i8kfangui which can be used to manually control the fans. I know it works on my old xps so it may work for the 1730. You can set it so when a certain temp is reached the fans will go to max speed. -

Can I use my normal vacuum cleaner with the small nozzle which I use to clean my room??
-

Now it reached to 79 degree normal without playing any games. It goes like 95 while playing pop 2008.

Not sure about using a vacuum cleaner cause of static etc.
Just use something like this:

How long is that product useful?
I mean will it finish after using for 1-2 times cleaning and is it reusable or just use and throw? -

I already cleaned the vents and there is not even a single dust. Still the same. I am using Nvidia 179 drivers. Should I change it to something other?
Plz suggest some drivers? -
Dude, open the beast and clean it !
It shaved 10C off my load temps, now maxes at 76-77C .
It takes a lot , but it`s worth if.
Look at Iftibashir `s videos on youtube on how to do it. Takes a while, like an hour or so, but totally worth it..
And it extends your notebooks life...
As for drivers :180.84 or 185.20. -
wow 80, more fans?

any other suggestion or stable driver which will low my gpu temp?

sounds like you need to get a new laptop. If you have tried everything that the nbr crew has told you. Then just get a new one.
Like the 7811fx 7805ufx laptop.
Or the Asus Gv5
or a Sager.
All really reliable systems. -
You need to clean it! I`m pretty sure you have dust issues!
-
Definitely cleaning. you have some major dust built up inside. Just use a can of compressed air.
