88C is high, but not too dangerous especially if you barely hit that temperature. What's you graphic card?

i tend to hit 84C whilst heavy gaming so i would say that was a little on the high side. as long as it didn't go into 90+C then you are OK.

    hope this helps :)

geforce 9800gts 1gb. Cmon man thats too high. I was only playing for 20 minutes. is wrong tih this gpu??? I just got the motherboard replaced and had to wait a full 2 weeks to get a new one AND they scratched my laptop, this is REALLY pissing me off. This is WAY too high.

EDIT: Ok you guys seem to think its ok but I want it to max at 70C which to me is normal, is there noting I can do?? Can I not make the fan go faster or something?

And why does every game have different temps? TF2 gets no higher than 66, burnout gets max 72ish and dow 2 gets 88. This doesnt seem normal to me.

EDIT: I have the latest drivers from nvidia, no progs running in background. The laptop is even lifted. This cant be normal.

    Tried cleaning out your vents?

(I tried playing DOW1 today and was getting 85-95C. Turned out I had a very small amount of dust stuck on the vent and after taking care of it the temperatures dropped to 70-75. It's like the fan's is blowing the air out through a straw. )

    It IS normal.
Some games stress the gpu more than others. Up to 95 degrees is still safe, more than that is already dangerous.

As I said, you don't have to worry about it. Some games push your graphic card harder, that's why the temperature will go higher. TF2 is not that intensive (for your card), that's why the temperatures will stay low.

Well, you said that the vents are clean and the computer is already lifted so I guess a cooler would help. Also, I heard that some drivers do help taking the temperatures down a bit. I don't know which one's are they myself, but I use the 180.70 drivers and my cards never exceeded 81.

Enable "vsync" either through in game settings or through the nvidia control panel. It'll cap your fps(usually at 30/60) and should bring your temps down.

If you are that stessed buy a notebook cooler. If your running a hp laptop then they tend to get very hot. My opinion they have a bad cooling solution.

Check the link in my sig, there`s a whole chapter on it.
Raise it even more and keep it on a solid surface, not on fabric, which tends to build up heat. Mine`s propped up 2.5-3 inches... :D

I have similar temps with my 9800M GS that I flashed to GTS voltage/clocks. I'm getting new thermal compound, there's honestly not much else that can be done. The GTS is simply a hot card.

You have a good memory. Ya I didnt do it and that was on the old motherboard which has been replaced with this one.

Anyway I find it really strange that TF2 runs at 66 and this at 88, thats a 22C difference which is almost the idle temps of a PCs core. I find it very strange and I also posted a thread about my temps reaching 98C on runes of magic but that game has been reported to overclock GPUs on its own.

No prog OCes on its own, all they can do is fully stress the components.

You might have a bad card there, ask other users with the same laptop what they`re getting and compare results.

Dude, you're way to paranoid about your temperatures. This is what, the third thread?

DoW2 is a pretty demanding game, so it will push your graphics card more so than TF2.

The critical level of 9800M series graphic card is 97c, after it reaches that temperature, it will downlock itself to make the temp. drop down.

88c is what I would call "normal/high", but still absolutely OK temp. Continue to check your temps and watch them when you play a game!

http://forum.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=22840 Whatever it does Im not alone so Im not worried. Its just wierd how dow 2 is so high when it isnt very demanding.

Yes Im paranoid because I went for a 3 hour drive for this laptop to the U.S paid 1600$ with canada exchange rate and the fees while crossing the border and when we came back it worked for about 2 weeks then it stopped working and I had to send it in to repair which I had to pay 23 dollars for that. I waited patiently for 2 weeks and just got it back. Not to mention I have been saving up for this for 3 years without a job.

Now that thats cleared up, could anyone tell me if dow 2 and company of heroes run on the same engine?

Are you losing FPS? If no ( which it is ) then you are fine dont worry about it. If it breaks send it in under warrenty. I dont give a crap about my temperatures because i have a warrenty.

That's my mentality regarding my HP's temperatures - its graphics card gets to 92*C during games. After I got a notebook cooler and it didn't take off more than a few degrees, I said screw it, if the thing fails, that's what the warranty is for.

If you have no room to OC, then your card is running hot. Run ATitool and stress out the GPU to find your max temps.

    -Buy a cooling pad
    -Change the thermal paste
    -Change the drivers
    -Check/clean the fans

Thermal paste is not a program, its an actual paste that is used to "pull" the heat from the GPU or CPU to the heatsink, it basically makes sure that the heatsink and fan have a good connection with each other. You can get thermal paste ( the most popular is Arctic Silver 5 ) at any computer shop. Hope that cleared it up for you you.

If you're over worried with it, take off the GPU cooler, clean off the thermal paste they put on it at the factory, then put on some arctic silver 5, or arctic ceramic if you don't know how to put on the paste and think you might screw it up. Then put the cooler back on and make sure the vents are clean, and the screws are well fastened.

But as others have said, notebook GPU's tend to get VERY hot, don't worry about it unless the notebook starts BSOD'ing, or downclocking.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think the thermal limit of that card is exactly 106c. Meaning that at that temperature the GPU will automatically shut down to prevent damage. So really no matter how high the temp gets, it won't ruin the graphics card so don't worry about it. If it gets to the point of downclocking or the notebook instantly shuts down, that's when you should worry.

One question though, what's the temperature of the room that your using the notebook in? Ambient temperatures can vastly effect your notebook's cooling efficiency.

Can you take a screen shot of those temps? ( i mean 96+)

Under 90C is normal for a LAPTOP some times even around 90 (meaning up to 92), you can't compare temps from desktop computers with laptops, it's two different things as laptops runs hotter in general, nothing strange at all.

And it's not strange that one game puts more load on the GPU than another, as they all have different demands on the system.

And if something happens you still have warranty, so use it with joy.

That does seem quite high. I ran ATItool on mine and my temps looked like this:

    After 1 min: 73C
    2 min: 78C 3 min: 81C
4 min: 83C 5 min: 86C (max fan speed kicked in here)
    6 min: 85C 7 min: 86C
    8 min: 86C 9 min: 87C
    10 min: 86C

The most likely things I can think of:

    1. Your notebook's cooling isn't well designed.
    2. There's a microfracture in the heatsink.
    3. The thermal compound was applied poorly.
