    256MB 9200M GS GDDR3 tests

    Driver: 176.24

    Running stable @ 700/850
    3Dmark06 score: 2598
    Max GPU temp: 65C

    Driver: DOX optimized (Performance) 185.20
    Running stable @ 720/875
    3Dmark06 score: 2787
    Max GPU temp: 63C

    Driver: DOX optimized (Performance) 182.05
    Running stable @ 720/875
    3Dmark06 score: 2799
    Max GPU temp: 69C

    ~OCed using nVidia nTune
    ~Temperautre monitored using HWmonitor
~Frames per Second monitored using FRAPS

All games are run with driver 176.24 unless stated otherwise.

    FEAR multiplayer
    Settings:
All settings maxed, inc 4xAA @1280x800, no OC

    Screenies:
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Impressions & recommended settings:
At the settings tested it was ok, in fierce battles it can get quite laggy, and a little frustrating with the fps dropping to the regions of 22, all in all you will get an average of around 30fps. However, turning off "Soft shadows", "Volumetric lighting" and turning AA down to 2x them you get pretty much flawless game play thus much more fun at the expense of barely no loss in graphical lovelyness :)

    Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
    Settings:
9200M GS + CoD maxed = Disaster
However, the game is more playable at these settings w/ OC:

    Screenies:
[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Impressions & recommended settings:
CoD4 is a great game and runs OK on this card, not the best I admit but still a lot of fun. An alternative to my setup would be to drop the resolution down and crank the other settings up, this entirely depends on your personal preference and screen size. For example, a 17" monitor would look terrible at a resolution of 1024x640, but on a 12.1" screen it still looks fairly crisp.

Dawn of War: Dark Crusade (Also applies for Soulstorm)
    Settings:
All settings maxed @1280x800, no OC

    Screenies:
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Impressions & recommended settings:
Maxed is all I can say, its a good solid RTS and the fact that the graphics card was backed by a P8400 meant that it ran superbly. In my opinion this card is great for the majority of RTSs out in the market today. It does show minor lag during bigger battles when you have the toolbar minimized, if you really need the higher fps then I recommend lowering "Shadows" and "Lighting" to medium or low.

    Racedriver: GRID
    Settings:
    All settings minimum/off @1280x800, OCed

    Screenies:
[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Impressions & recommended settings:
It's odd, for some reason it lagged more in the menus than it does when your in a race. I also noticed that the game actually runs quite smoothly at 23fps, which on a first person shooter would be terrible/bearable. This is a very nice looking racer. It ran very smoothly on the first race (BMW) but fell sort on the third race (GT).

Fallout 3 (yes, it actually runs... just)
    Settings
    Minimum/Off, textures high @960x600 OCed

    Screenies
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
(The 4th picture shows the game running maxed at 960x600)

    Impressions & recommened settings
I'm highly surprised Fallout 3 could run on a 9200M GS. It is very playable at the low resolution of 960x600 and isn't as blurry as I would've guessed. However, you can run it at 1280x800 comfortable with textures down at medium. (I have yet to visit Rivet City though :s)

    Other games:
    Counter Strike/Day of Defeat: Source

    No OC, 1280x800 Medium-High, average FPS ~45
    Command and Conquer 3
    OCed, 1280x800 Medium-High, Average FPS ~30
Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion (needs Sreamline and thus OBSE)
OCed, 1024x640 Very low, FPS is between 20-40
    Need for Speed Underground 2
No OC, 1280x800 Near Maxed, no AA, Average FPS 50

    Conclusion
To finalize I would say that the 9200M GS is by no means a power house of a graphics card and if you are looking to game hard then maybe a step up from the 9200 would be a wiser choice, but for people that want a dedicated GPU for light gaming and decent battery life, this is a good option.

Feedback is appreciated, hope it was enlightening and peace out! :D

NB: Sorry, but PhotoBucket downscales the screenshots to 1024x768, you'll have to make do

i wouldnt push it that far if i were you...though the temps may be low you are stressing out your CORE clocks and your MEMORY clocks WAYYYY TOO MUCH. You card will probably die in approximately 5~6 months if used 1hr~ a day. The 9200M GS is not that powerful of a card and should be maintained at a safe area.

Other members have done this...excited and all. 2 months later, no more word from their mouths

Seriously though, I havn't seen anyone post about the 9200m gs have problems with OCing, surely if the cards maximum recorded temp is 65C it should be coming to no real harm.
Could you point me towards these threads commenting on the 9200?

Check out the HP forum, the HP dv4, dv5t and dv7t are the predominant systems with the 9200M GS as an option.

Where have "other members done this" though, I know a few laptops come with the 9200m, but no one has writen anything on overclocking so, unless you're refering to a different card then I don't understand

Nice scores, although I wonder if I was that aggressive could I reach 3k with my 3200. Makes you wonder what you can do with an IGP nowadays.

BTW, its a dedicated card, but I agree, intergrated cards are getting pretty powerful.

Stock clocks my 9200 reaches 2K I think, so I was quite proud with the end result of ~2600. Around a 30% increase that really shows when gaming.

Typically the 9200mGS scores 1400-1700 from what I have read, so your increase is larger then 30%. I always forget the IGP is the 9100m.

Nah, at stock clocks on mine I get roughly 2K, mainly because of the stronger processor nd maybe because mine is GDDR3.

I was reffering to different cards but they same have the same ending.

No matter the temperatures, when cards are clocked OVER their stock standards which in your case...i have no clue but in mine is 450, it reduces the lifespan considerably ESPECIALLY at the clocks youve set it at.

Well I rarely play games on it at those clock settings, I just wanted to see the overall performance increase. Usually I just run it at stock clocks, I dont mind turning down a couple settings for the sake of the GPU.

Your also being quite ignorant, do you really not believe that I have researched and grasped an understanding of overclocking before getting into it?

If you would like to contact me further on this matter please contact me via PM before taking a crap on my thread, thank you.

    Hi.

I just got 2642 point`s in 3dmark06demo with core 700 mem 850 and my maximum gpu temp was 59c , I was getting 2086 stock.

The 9200m seems to overclock quite well.

    Regards

    John.

Close to mine then, but if I go any higher there is minor artifacting in 3Dmark with the fireflies.

:( Something went wrong in the hard-drive and had to reinstall Vista, it would bluescreen on the OS loading screen, its all good now though :S

    Hi.

How far have you pushed the memory, i just used your values for core and memory, gddr3 should be able to go to 1000 with cooling.

I put the core to 750 and the driver failed or something, downclocked

Yeah, I have driver fail @ 730 core if I can remember, I really ought to get some form of decent cooling though. atm I prop it up and run an old PC PSU fan under it.

Ooh, I got the Logitech VX Nano today, its freaking sweet but because of how the wheel functions you cant middle click.

I am busy trying to get a gamepad to work in battlefield 2 with key-mapper software.

I tried to use RMCLOCK, but i cannot get a 8.5 multipler only 8 , so the cpu only runs at 2.1 max instead of 2.2

Is it plugged into AC power?
When a laptop is running off batteries then it use a program called PowerMizer to lower the clocks of the GPU thus giving you shoking frames per second.

EDIT: Heres the latest driver, here.
And heres the guide, under nVidia, here.

Maybe the game is not 64-bit compatible.
Is it on all the games you play, or just one?

Urban Terror should run great, its a very old game, have you d/led all the patches for it?

Also try updating your video drivers at LaptopVideo2Go.com in the forum section look for the most recent one (If you get stuck just report back here :))

I dont know about fifa 09 cause I ve never actually played any sort of sports game on a PC

EDIT: Are you plugged into AC power, 'cause if your on battery the GPU downclocks itself to save power

Also make sure your windows power option is set to high performance. When it's set to Power Saver I think the CPU limits itself to 1.5GHz.

okay. I am running plugged in, not just on battery.

it's weird - i tend to just run really laggy. have played years of urban terror on my old 17" Inspiron 9300, and i just can't run even close to the same performance with this laptop - even on the lowest settings. any ideas?

    I am a little stuck with laptopvideo2go...
should i download this driver for my HP dv4t?

Yeah, those drivers should be the best option, download the file and extract it, download the modded INF file, put the INF file into the 176.53 Folder with all the other files in and run setup.exe (close all undeed programs as well).

Close all unescessary programs, plug it in, run in High Performance mode, update the video drivers.

Nope you are wrong. I have a defective 8400m gs which I ran at 700mhz core (stock is 400mhz, maxed the bar on riva tuner) without cooler max temp is 95c with zalman nc1000 its around 80c. I run the video card at these clocks more than 2 hours a day on average, and it just went out after 13month of service. given that the 9200m gs is not defiective and the max temp is only at 65c, I'd say those settings are safe

NVidia is not to blame, its how efficient the cooling is in the laptop, which is done by Sony in your case and Samsung in mine.
Samsung are know for having very efficient cooling systems in their notebooks which explains the different temps.

Well, watever, im still love my vaio Z in every expect. Fact is SONY >biger> SAMUNG .... sure, nvidia should be blamed a little bit for example 8600 = 3650 in term of performent but 8600s much more failure rate than 3650 - how u explain this

What are your temps? I have the ddr2 model (hp dv5t) and wish to overclock it. Ntunes doesn't work for me, so I used the evga precision program.

Did you overclock the shaders and gpu clockspeed independently or linked?

    Hi.

Ntune only gives you the option to adjust the core and the memory, the shader must be linked.

I have managed to get my 9200m 256 GDDR3 to 750core/950mem with a max core temp of 63c , but you dont no how hot the memory is getting so be careful.

But i was just messing about and i only use 700core/850mem on games normally.

    Regards

    John.

My laptop seems to have cooled down since getting it,
I run it at 700/880 usually and havn't seen it running above 55C and I always have HWmonitor running to get the max temps.

However, I think that the DDR2 model will run at a higher temp though, so don't be disappointed if yours seems to run hotter.

I cannot reach 750 core, it dies on me at 730...
