Ok So I ran 3dmark06 before and after OCing. I have Windows XP SP3 installed on my N10J. I am using 169.04 drivers from laptopvideo2go. Processor is Atom N270 @ 1.6Ghz. Stock Gpu clocks are 580/400/1450

    Temps before OCing were:

The 3dmark06 score came to 1385:

I OCed processor to 2.1Ghz and OCed GPU clocks to 760/530/1900.

The temps stayed pretty close to stock temps:

The 3d mark 06 score came to 1707:

So here is the great news guys... I changed the drivers to 180.42 and re-ran the tests. These drivers wont let me overclock the core clock of the GPU. As soon as I do that the 3dmark scores go down so I overclocked the memory. GPU stock speeds are 580/400/1450 Here are the scores.

    GPU 580/400/1450, CPU @ 1.6 1577
    GPU 580/400/1450, CPU @ 2.1 1919
    GPU 580/450/1450, CPU @ 2.1 2010
    GPU 580/500/1450, CPU @ 2.1 2079
    GPU 605/500/1450, CPU @ 2.1 2017
    GPU 580/550/1450, CPU @ 2.1 2144

Are there any better drivers I should benchmark?

You can overclock your GPU with NTune, and then save a custom profile and when you start up, if your settings are gone, then you just need to reload the profile. But seriously, I don't think you know what you're doing! Overclocking your CPU from 1.6 Ghz to 2.1 will ruin your CPU if you don't use a better cooling than the standard laptop fans. NTune is quite good, but I don't recommend you to OC your system...

I have been testing the processor OC for 2 days at intervals and the temps havent gone up a lot. I am just concerned about the GPU drivers that work best with 9300. I'll get those and then OC the gpu. I also want to know how far I can OC it.

Well OCing a 9300m in a netbook is going to vary from OCing the same card in a full-sized laptop so it's hard to say... especially since not many people even own an N10J in the first place, much less have OC'd them. Anyhow, it's interesting that you've managed to push those clocks that high. How is your 3dMark06 score?

I'd run through 3DMark06 a few times to test your overclock. It will stress the GPU very hard.

    Nice overclocking!

I am downloading 3dmark06 right now but I dont know how it is going to run the tests as the resolution on this notebook is 1024x600 and 3dmark06 res is 1280x800 or something like that. I'll run it anyway and see what happens.

I am still looking for better drivers though. So, if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

3DMark06 doesn't have a minimum resolution, AFAIK. People were able to run it on the N10J for its test here on NBR.

I doubt oc'ing the gpu will help much since even at 2.0+ GHz the Atom will be the weak link. I'd like to see what the results are though. My N10J clocks to 2.1GHz easily as well. Temps remain below 72C

72C for the CPU is very high... personally I would try to keep it well below 70C. If you were talking about the GPU then that's acceptable.

Guys I have added the scores and the screenshots. Please loook at them I might be doing something wrong and also let me know about better drivers. This is the first time I have ran any tests or posted anything of this sort online so I appologize for anything wrong that I might have posted.

According to your screenshots your CPU temp rose like crazy after overclocking, or is that just because you ran 3dMark06? Also, you're running the test at 1024x600, correct?

Hes using a netbook/tiny laptop and thats probably the highest res.
But I agree, these would be unfair to compare against everything else unfortunately.
But still, that's like an 80ish% increase, which is very impressive but I find it hard to believe your not damaging your laptop.
    Good work/luck :D

EDIT: Hang on a sec, you only get 2100 when you OC, thats what I get stock on a 9200M GS. I can only assume its the processor dragging it down :S

Yeah I ran 3dmark right after overclocking thats why temps are high. I just ran Grid and RA3 and they both run fine. RA3 without any tweaking and Grid with medium settings. So I will only keep the processor overclocked and overclock the GPU only when needed.

Do you guys know any other overclockable drivers?

Turns out 180.43 are even better drivers I get about 30 more 3dmark06 points with these drivers.

I have only had the proc overclocked at 2.1

I havent felt the need to OC the GPU as it is running RA3, GRID, Dirt, Fallout 3 and COD 4 at med/low settings without any problems.

70C is ok for this CPU. Functioning range is 0-90c. http://download.intel.com/products/atom/320218.pdf.

It doesn't even have a heat sink on it for crying out loud!

Following are the results of benchmarking with my N10J. I ran at both native N10 resolution (1024x600) and plugged into an external VGA monitor to run at default 3DMark resolutions:

    Asus N10J-A1
    Windows XP Pro SP3
    GeForce 9300m GS 256MB
    w/ Forceware 179.13
    2GB DDR2-667MHz
320GB Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM HDD

    3DMark05 | 1.6GHz | 1024x768 | 2547
    3DMark05 | 1.6GHz | 1024x600 | 2658
    3DMark05 | 2.1GHz | 1024x768 | 3101
    3DMark05 | 2.1GHz | 1024x600 | 3335

    3DMark06 | 1.6GHz | 1280x1024 | 1204
    3DMark06 | 1.6GHz | 1024x600 | 1532
    3DMark06 | 2.1GHz | 1280x1024 | 1418
    3DMark06 | 2.1GHz | 1024x600 | 1843

I will try the 180.43 drivers later, but they don't say they support 9300m GS, but it seems they do considering other people have used them.

I tried oc'ing the GPU, but couldn't get the core much past 580 (585 only) and the memory past 450.

TBH I don't think that overclocking the GPU will be nearly as good as OC'ing the CPU since it is the much weaker of the two.

I will update drivers to 180.43 and try to overclock the GPU again and see if it helps.

In any case I'm quite satisfied with the CPU overclock. It allows me to play games like Fallout 3, Red Alert 3, Battlefield 2, C&C 3 just fine.

The only caveat I have with the N10 is the screen resolution. While most games can adjust to the native 1024x600 resolution, some have a minimum 1024x768 requirement, like with Sins of a Solar Empire.

Yeah OCing the GPU doesnt do any good. I am going to install the 180.44 and 180.47 drivers as well. I want to OC the CPU past 2.1

What did you use to OC the CPU?

I used SetFSB to overclock the CPU. Our friends over at n10user.com worked with the SetFSB developer to add the N10.

It works great. Just be sure to select the right clock generator (ICS9LPR310BGLF) incorporated in version 2.1.83.0 or later.

The owner of n10user.com is working on a systray app for quick switch. Look for my post (htwingnut) however there to make a bat file to change clock speeds. It takes a minute to increase speeds safely, and be sure to change clock back to stock before restarting your PC, otherwise it will hang.

Yeah I am a user on n10user.com......I have seen ur posts.....what are the speeds u have set in the bat file for both the overclocking bat file and the one that returns it to normal.....mine is "C:\setfsb\setfsb.exe -w5 -s175 -p101.4 -b1 -i10 -u1" for overclocking....

yes, mine is similar, except I ended up leaving my pci bus to -p99. My system runs fine at 2.1GHz with it there, so I'll leave it. YMMV.

I've tried the 180.48 drivers. I haven't noticed anything since they're the first drivers I've installed here >< but, I've heard it's slower than 178.something.

I have a question, how do you get Battlefield 2 working on this? Whenever I start it up, it just goes black and then back to the normal screen... which is exactly what happened on my X61 because of the stupid refresh rate. Although, this time the refresh rate is 60Hz... so I have no idea what's up.

    I havent tried BF2.

As for drivers, try the xfastest 180.70 they are amazing on this notebook.
