will a nvidia geforce 9300m gs gpu work in an asus g50vt notebook? the g50vt came with a 9800m gs stock card and it burned up. hard to find a reliable source for 9800m gs replacement without letting the asus or best buy repair shop suck my wallet hard since my warranty is expired on a 3year old notebook. i have a free 9300m gs. please help me. my motherboard model#60NSZMB1100A02. the 9800m gs model#NSVG1000A03. not sure of the 9300m gs model# cause i wont have it till tomorrow.

As long as it's a flipped mxm card there should be no problem. You could also look into reflowing your card or baking it to fix it. Secondly, clean out any dust that built up because I'm sure there is quite a bit of build up

the 9300m gs doesnt fit as far as the mounting holes and the heatsink assembly in my g50vt doesnt match the chips on the 9300m gs card either. i cant even find the right card on the internet (9800m gs a.k.a. nszvg1000a03). will my laptop display video the way it is now if i remove the old/bad card and run it without any gpu? im not sure where my notebook is deriving its graphics from. i want to reflow my 9800m gs but this is my only working pc and i need to be able to reference the internet for guidance. . .im gonna try to remove the card and run pc without it to see what happens tonight...does anyone have any links to some suggested reading material about reflowing at home (baking card in oven)?

i hav to go to best buy or somewhere tomorrow for thermal paste as well...any recommendations?

tried to run my g50vt without any gpu card and it only had a "white screen" but i could hear the asus boot up sound play once and then again after a few minutes. got heat paste zm-stg1 and reinstalled new heat xfer paste on the cpu and old 9800mgs card. the 9300 card is not going to work. wont fit correctly heatsink doesnt match and mounting holes do not match. im too scared to "bake or reflow" my card and then be without any computer at all. when my g50vt is completely cool (hasnt been ran for several hours) it will boot up using the 9800m gs but then freeze after a couple of minutes and i have to hard power down and restart. then it will only reboot in crap mode

is "reflowing" or "baking" your card very risky?
-
Sorry for the late reply, baking your card isn't very risky at all in my experience and it squeezes a little more life out of the machine. You can check ebay for Asus cards, the reason you can still see a display with the 9800m gs is because it isn't fully dead yet so you can still use it somewhat to get a picture on the screen

Asus cards are not just asus cards. Not all of them are reversed. There are multiple versions of the 9800m gs.
Asus makes their cards specific to each notebook.
There might still be a few cheap replacement options like the 9700m gt. That said, looking at the mounting it seems to be the same as the 9300m you probably purchased.
So, its likely the 9300m is in fact compatible and needs a different heatsink.
Actually, the 9800m GS is the only compatible card that uses that heatsink... except for the GTX 260m from the g60vx.
So unless you can find a new heatsink you don't have many options. Cards from the g70, g71 and g72 will not work, they are a different form factor. -
thank you to everyone for your answers they are extremely helpful!

well no success with baking the card. i read extensively on the forums about "reflowing" and "baking" gpus and i followed it all correctly from what i believe. i preheated oven to 385 farenheit put card on foil balls on foil sheet on cookie sheet in oven and baked for 10 minutes i smelled the "toxic fumes" towards the end of the 10 minutes (maybe as early as 5-6 minutes in) and ventilated them. i cooled the card with the oven door open only a couple inches for 25 minutes like the video showed and then door open for 10 more minutes before removing gpu from oven. then i reinstalled the card and used new zm-stg1. booted my g50vt with "baked" card and same as it was prior to baking it. so i dont know...atleast it didnt ruin the card more! my cpu cores 0 and 1 are 150 and 154 degrees farenheit respectively, they have been maintaining that temp area and gpu is 192 degrees and rising gradually over maybe 20 minutes! this gpu has ran as hot as 228 degrees before i baked it so. . .well i guess i will continue using this card to browse internet cause thats all it can do and if it dies completely before i can replace the gpu then i will try to bake it again.
