hello , i was originally going to have an acertravelmate 5720g but laptopsdirect.co.uk managed to try and screw me over (not a good idea) so i got a refund and left. I was walking by an Aldi store today when i saw this offer, and i was absolutly amazed. £499

    http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2867_5160.htm

    WOW nvidia 9300m G 128mb ddr3
    WOW 3gb of ram
    WOW tv tuner
    WOW draft n wireless
    pentium dual core T2330..... tumbleweed
i knew there was gonna be a catch, would the t2330 slow down the 9300m too much?

also what would the t2330 be equivilant to in terms of turion x2 ? thx in advance :)

Uh...even though the 9300 is technically 9xxx card, don't expect it to be good. Really, the 300 series tends to be close to the lowest discrete cards in terms of power; even if the 9300 has all the fancy DX10 support you'll have to run DX9 mode because the card is so weak.

At 16 shaders, it'll probably have trouble running most games and the 64-bit interface will be pretty bad

I'm pretty sure this is right, correct me if I'm wrong (by the way, I had this same misconception that even lower end 8xxx series should be stronger than 7xxx series :))

Sorry to crush your hopes :(

The 9300M GS is just an 8400M GS repackaged. Not that strong of a card; the processor should be fine unless you plan on using it for CPU-intensive tasks (video encoding, RTS games, etc etc.)

Your bottleneck in gaming will still be the GPU, as noted it is weak. Take a look at the 8400M-GS review to get an idea of what to expect from the card:

The CPU is actually fine, the Pentium Dual-Core is a cut-down Core 2 Duo. Its performance should be adequate for most people.
