Can anyone say what would be a healthy/unhealthy temperature to have a 9500m GS running at?
I managed to snag an MXM card to upgrade my AW and it's working great, just runs at about 65C idle and maxes out at 90 under load. Is that getting into the too hot range or should I be fine?

55c idle and 80c max load would be ideal but it can deviate from model to model.

    Did you use thermal paste?

I have a stock G1S that runs mid 80's under load on games like COD4.

Ok, I was actually just playing WaW and it got up to 96, I think I probably should try and do something. I don't think I can do thermal paste because it has pads to bridge the gap between the core and memory chips and the heatsink. It might help to get new pads though. Does anyone know where I could get them other than MXM-upgrade in Europe? I think I may invest in a laptop cooler also, see if I can get the temps down further with that; it just doesn't seem like the built in fan moves too much air (it is all cleaned out and such)

If the pad is about 1mm~ thick you could try doing the Copper mod instead.

I dont think anyone has tried it for that card though.

I was actually just thinking of trying something like that, I think the space between the core and the heatsink is less than 1mm, but I think I can get copper sheet thinner than that. I'll give it a try once I get home next week, have to order some as5...

ebay ;), there are a couple sellers with a lot of them up now actually. This was actually supposed to be an 8600gt, but I'm not complaining since it is just a improved version of the same core.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that I am either getting inaccurate data or the core isn't making good contact with my heatsink, because I believe this card was meant an Acer, probably like yours. So unless I got a lemon card my cooler should be able to handle it (not like that technology has changed much).

Edit: Also, the air coming out doesn't seem overly hot.

I run in the 50s on idle, peaking below 75 when benchmarking/gaming.
Then again, I did AS5 the GPU core.

You never want it to get hotter than 90C.

I recommend doing the Thermal paste, and getting a cooler.

    Hi Matmat07,

I also have a 6920g and think about to overclock it to play gta iv.
Any experience in that.. or played that game with your laptop.

Can you please explain exactly what you did to overclock to the scale you mention in your signature..

    Thanks :)

    Chris

    Get RivaTuner 2.21

Update your display drivers and launch RivaTuner.

In RivaTuner, you click to customize in the driver settings tab, then select system settings, then click enable overcloking. Select the new speeds and tick off whether you'd like the overclock applied at system start. Good luck.

    thanks for answer,

what Forceware Version do you use?
I tried to install 180.84 now, but after install it says "not modified" I will delete all drivers later and reinstall again.

if you have more infos about your detailed riva setup would be great I guess for many of us, looks you configured there something nice :)

    Thanks
    Chris

mine runs idle between 60 and 63C. i've gone through a lot of topics for the 9500M GS and noticed almost all Asus Notebooks with this graphic card idle at around 60C and max temp at 90C and on Acer notebooks, idle is around 50-55C. i actually wonder what factor is really responsible for the different idle temps

My Acer 5920G get up to 90-95C during load as well, but then again the whole laptop is rather hot and from what i read thats the usual temperatures with this laptop is 55-60 idle and 85-95+C load. I guess it also depends on ambients since my room is like 30c or something (heater broken always on :D )

Better cooling system? Different heat pads or thermal paste?
    Different voltages in VBIOS?

Well I think it is a driver issue because sometimes my card goes down at Low Power 3D clocks but that usually happens when i have something popping out while playing a game. And then if i overclock the LP 3D clocks as well it continues working. Other than than i dont have a problem, but then again I dont play games that much. like 1-1:30, so havent used it for a long time while overclocked.

In my opinion, the cooling system in the Acer 5920G isnt really sufficient for the components inside

krusha03, dont you think you're pushing your graphic card too hard with those overclocking values?

Well to tell you the truth I am not quite sure, maybe its me only but compared to 8600M GT there are not a lot of threads about 9500M GS(I mean people are still not sure if its faulty or not). I have seen people pushing it higher and AtiTool didnt detect any artifacts for like 30mins testing + i have a notepal infinite cooling it down. The thing is if i didnt had the cooler and the clocks where at stock the temps would be the same. Maybe i should contact acer and ask if the temps are normal for this laptop (and from what i have read here, they more or less are)

mine actually started artifacting at 600/1300/482. but i think since you've got acer, you have better cooling system anyway. but still, try to stay in the safe zone regarding overclocking

My idle temps used to be ~52-55C and under load would go from 68-72C (stock clocks).

However since I got back from my ski trip my laptop has been idling at 62-70C... I'm going to clean out the fans, but I thought that this sharp increase was odd. I'm too scared to game on it now :p. I also changed drivers and operating systems with the same results.

Does anyone know if there are any cases of the 9500m GS being faulty like some of the 8600m GT?
