I'm wondering about this. I want to run a Far Cry demo on a Radeon 9600/9700. Demo won't run. The specs say I MUST have Catalyst 3.9 drivers. However my drivers date is 5/2004. Isn't 3.9 an older driver? I downloaded the 3.9 but haven't installed it yet. Any thoughts/advice?
    Thanks

Would they actually work! Ati's drivers won't install for me since this is a mobility chip. I tried the omega drivers which are supposed to work for mobility chips, but windows would no longer boot (blue screen of death!) so at the end I stuck with what evere came with mine, although I am having some drivers issues in some games!

I think that Fujitsu or your vendor would have their own video drivers for Mobility chips.

Yes, mine is the mobility version also, so that is not good news.

However just happened to come across the retail version of FarCry today for only $20 US, so I'll try to install that instead of the demo. The specs on the box do state however, that it may not perform on all notebook cards.

you can edit the regular ati drivers to work with your mobility. a bit in-depth to explain here, but here's a program that may help:

    http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/

it edits the file for you (i've never used it, but will once i get my laptop!)

basically, the long way is this (for xp anyway):

go to device manager, open the properties for your radeon, and choose the 'details' tab. it'll show something along the lines of:

    PCIVEN_1002&DEV_4E45&SUBSYS_00041002&REV_004&102AC5BC&0&00F0

(this is the device ID of my radeon 9700 non-pro)

you just copy that line, and add it to the relevant .inf file in the catalyst driver's folder, put it right after the other cards in the file (each card has a device ID like that followed by the name of the card) and then put something like "Radeon Mobility 9700" or whatever your card is called. Now, when you install the drivers, they will recognise your card as being contained in the .inf file and so will install as normal.

    be careful though!

The newsest versions of the Omega drivers have an option during install for compatability with Mobility RADEON 9700s, and they work fine with my 9600. I'd reccomend trying those before editing the drivers yourself.

I just recieved my m30x yesterday, and I had no trouble installing the newest omega drivers for my 9700 and they run great.

    Toshiba Satellite m30x-174 1.6 Pentium-M - 512mb RAM - 60gb 4200rpm HDD - 15.4 wxga screen - Ati Mobility Radeon 9700 64mb

So far i love it :)

I have used it for ATI 9700 Mobility and it works great. Run the mod first then unxip/install the drivers. If you try drivers first you will get an error saying it can't find inf file. There is a long list of ati cards it helps install Cat rivers for.

I installed the latest Catalyst 5.8 drivers from the ATi site using the mod on driverheaven.net. Pretty straitforward. They work great, recommended! :)
