My 9600M GS is idling in the high 50's*C, sometimes it at 60*C. Under stress, I've never seen it exceed 65*C, so that's good.

The laptop is on a hard surface, air flow is not blocked, and I regularly clean out the vents. I've heard a different driver could lower the temps, is this true?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you've never seen it exceed 65C thats a miracle. Then again it depends what your doing. Idleing at high 50's-60's is a tad hot, but it could be Nvidia laptop GPUs from my experiance they all get pretty darn hot.

Drivers sometimes can make a difference in temperature as I have heard. But never experienced it really changing the temps over a few degrees *C.

    ?

Those temps are fine, I believe it's your Acer's cooling system that is bothering you if the palm rest is warm/hot, in that case, you should invest in a notebook cooler.

The 9600m gs in the Asus I have for sale runs cool ;)

yeah if you don't exceed 65C on load that's a good temperature. Arguably 50C idle is a bit high, but nothing problematic. If it's uncomfortable as ARom said, you can purchase a cooler or do things to reduce overall heat in the laptop such as undervolting or such.

whats a normal temperature for the 9500M GS?
mine used to idle at around 46C but now its usually around 53C... what could be causing it?

the weather is starting to get nicer, but i really dont see it making that big of a difference...

My 9600M GT idles in the 50*C range, and after gaming, it will idle in the 60*C range. Your temperatures are fine.

Well, on that note, what could we expect to be a decent temperature running on full load? My 9800GT takes up to about 82*C when running Crysis into the red, would this be considered reasonable?

    9 500M GS?
<70 idle and <90 load are considered normal (by normal I don't mean good, I mean average across many laptops). Look at the 8600M GT, they are the same cards.

my 9600 gt peaked for the first time today at 102C, thats a touch high for my tastes but it seems as though it was a freak occurance as it never has gone above 85 under load

I'm usually at 87-88C, but sometimes it gets to 92C if the circumstances are right. My throttle temp is 110C and damage temp is 125C so I just don't care.

I think mine often throttles before 95C which is a pain. Either that or a complete driver crash. Gawd do 8600M GT's with DDR2 memory suck...
