I don't do any gaming, or photoshop... Is it a waste to have the 9600M GT with a WXGA screen? im getting the indivia card as a free upgrade.. i cant seem to talk myself into the WSXGA+. I havent seen it in person but the screenshots I've seen on here make my eyes strain. I never even intended to have the specs that I have. They sent me a defective model and are giving me a whole bunch of upgrades that I probably wont even fully appreciate.. Considering most of my usage will be web browsing, messengers, watching , music, etc, I'm worried that 1650x1050 will just be too much strain on my eyes. I could care less about real estate, the market sucks now anyway!

If you're not even going to use the 9600, why would you upgrade your screen resolution because of it? It's not a waste, because you're getting the card for free, and even if you did game, the 9600 isn't strong enough to play modern games at the WSXGA+ resolution anyway, so you'd be turning the res down.

I personally feel that WSXGA+ if the perfect res for the 15 inch notebook. My last notebook was 1280x800, and now I could never go back to such a low resolution.

Yeah the 9600M GT will probably struggle to play games on higher settings and higher resolutions. It'd probably be best to have a lower native resolution so you can make sure to play all your games on that native resolution. And technically speaking, you don't even want to game(or at least you haven't expressed it in your needs).

Therefore, let's make it simple. If it hurts your eyes, don't get a higher screen resolution >.>

Get the 9600 and 1280x800 resolution. If 1680x1050 hurts your eyes, there's no point in getting it. You're most likely going to just turn the resolution down anyways, and not using the recommended resolution on an LCD= bad quality.

The better video card is going to be useful because more and more programs are using the GPU as a "spare wheel" As in, it uses the gpu to help supplement the CPU. Better gpu=better performance. And another reason: IT'S FREE!

Agreed - even though high resolution screens are nice for productivity, they won't help you if your eyes are strained.

If you're not gaming, I strongly advise getting the integrated Intel graphics card since it will let the laptop run a lot cooler and get better battery life.

If you're not going to game, get the WSXGA screen... if the font is too small, turn up the dpi, if you don't like how that looks, you can still lower the res. But when you get used to a high res, there's no turning back, hehe. Viewing and editing pictures, browsing, and productivity are all made easier :)

Well that depends on the person. I have a high resolution desktop monitor at 1900x1200 and my old laptop used to be 1200x800 and I'd actively switch between both quite often without much trouble.

But yeah, don't bother with a higher resolution if you don't like it. It's not much of an issue lol ;)

I personally can't live without a WSXGA+ screen now. WXGA is so... big. Seems like so much space is wasted.

I wouldn't recommend getting a WSXGA+ and then scaling it to WXGA. It looks pretty bad for most office tasks (alright for gaming)

Oh what did we do back in the days of 800x600 eh? :p

Nah just kidding, larger resolution screens are nice. You have more space to use and everything, but some people might not be the type to actively use that space.

To be honest, I fall into that category. Despite having a high resolution on my monitor, I'm so used to working with lower resolutions that I still minimize each window I use when I switch and I don't do multi-window and other stuff while working lol :p

Guess it's just built into me XD
