I understand that the geforce is a gaming card and that the quadro is a 3-D modeling card. I am trying to buy a laptop for school to run basic CAD applications. I can save 5 or 6 hundred dollars if I am able to use the gaming geforce vs the quadro .

Have any of you gamers used the 9600gs or comporable cards to run CAD? Were you able to get by with sufficient speed?

I am running 3d Studio Max on my 9600m GT GDDR3.
It handles my self made NX-01 mesh of 1.78 million polygons relatively good.

So I would say that CAD would be good on a gaming card as well if you are looking to save money.

actually the fx770m is quite a bit better then the 9600gs a 770m stock gets like 5500-6000 3dmark whereas a GS gets like 4000-4500
