how good is it, will it have gddr3 or ddr2 and is it better than a 256mb gddr3 8600m gt

 

Well it doesn't exist, so ask a different question. Of course it'll be faster than the 8600m GT, that's pretty obvious.

 

wen it does exist... id bet on SLIGHTLY faster than the 8600 with dx10.1

 

The 9-series does not have official 10.1 support.

The G96 is apparently linked to the Geforce 9600GSO, which is a 55nm 8800 GS.

384MB 192bits.

 

So it must be derived from the 8800 GS desktop card..not a bad one if I might say...

Yea, it wouldn't surprise me if it was released this summer as most notebook manufactures are looking to sell their machines during a period when sales are high due to student’s enrollment in college and university in the arriving fall and winter.

 

more than likely.. GDDR3. the 9500m gt is equivalent (a bit better even) than the 8600M GT GDDR3

 

Do you mean that you think they'll start selling them in summer after students go off to college or before? If you mean before, I'm wondering if it was a mistake to just buy a laptop (for college, no less). It was on a good deal and I didn't think that I would see a better one by the time I went off to college. I got a Intel C2D T8300, 4 gigs of RAM and a DDR3 8600m GT for $1100, and I wouldn't want to pay much more than that. Do you think that I could get better in about June or July? That would be about when I would need to get it since college starts in August (or possible September - still haven't decided where to go, but I'm going to plan for August just in case). I had assumed that with that only being two or three months in the future, things would not change much. Was I wrong?

 

Buy when you need and can't afford to wait. If you can wait until a better machine is released with superior specifications then the price will likely suit your potential budget better.

Do you want to play games on a cheaper machine with lower settings and less time before hardware obsolescence or would you prefer waiting for a more powerful machine which is potentially cheaper and will last longer with comparatively better graphics settings than its cheaper brethren?

I can't answer the above question for you, it's down to your budget, your gaming needs and your level of patience.

 

no that is fine and besides unless u game, there won't be much of a dif.there might be a 9600m gt and montevina processors but thats prob it and ur comp aint bad at all

Again, that is not what I am asking. I am not asking whether it is better to wait or not when you don't need one immediately as waiting will always yield better performance for the price. I am asking if taking advantage of a good deal now instead of waiting for two months (not an indefinite period of time, I will most definitely need one two months from now) will be a regrettable decision with my budget of about $1100. It's not like "Should I buy one now or wait for five months?" It's "If I take advantage of a good deal now, (46% off), will I regret that two months down the line?"

 

there will always be good deals. buy it when you need it. if thats 2 months from now, get it 2 months from now.

 

I am in the same boat, I'm looking now at the dell outlet vostros. Man there are some good deals there, but I know I should wait.

 

You probably will if you got a better laptop at more than a 46% discount 2 months down the line, however the question seems rhetorical and is really best answered yourself. If the hardware you get on a future laptop is overwhelmingly superior to the discounted laptop now the discount level may not be taken into consideration.
