My GPU in my Acer 6920g is dead Hd3650. Leaving me with out my work station

I ordered a 9600m gt but I still have two days to cancel the order. Will this GPU card work directly in my acer 6920g? As in " insert it in and us it" and it works? please kindly let me know, its urgent. Will I need to update the mother board Bios? will I need a bios mod?

When I plug the card the 9600m gt will my laptop even boot? please advise please. I need a concrete answer please. dont want to waste my cash.

    Many thanks
    George

is this your laptop Acer 6920G specifications | Expert Reviews

if so the spec says nvidia 9500M so if the 9600M has the same connections it could work but im no expert so best wait for someone that knows for sure.

thing is you have to make sure the card is compatible. eg dell cards will not work in a clevo laptop but i have no idea if there are any limitations with acer.

you could always try the baking method to try and resurect the nvidia card The Oven Trick (repairing your broken video card with an oven) | Overclockers

I've got a dying 9650GT in one system...personally I think even if you can replace it, a notebook using that is going to be old enough that getting better will be dirt cheap anyway.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that the 9600M GT was affected by the solder problems. Meaning the card won't exactly last long... So getting a 9600M GT might not be that cost effective...

Someone point me out if I'm wrong :)

Actually... the 9600m GT to my knowledge was not affected by the solder issues.
I have the card in question and after 5 years, its still working fine (adding to that, mine is supposed to have a weaker silicon quality).

As for whether the 9600m GT will work in Acer 6920G... I did some searching and it would appear its possible but, with a BIOS flash... otherwise, the thing might only work through HDMI.

You could try contacting .NetRoller3d and ask him for the modded bios of 6920G - I think he might have made one for it where the 9600m GT works.
