How relevant is the recent news about the GTX 970 to the 970M? Is it possible this card also has separate lower clocked pools of memory as well?

970M is fine. So far, only the desktop 970 is affected.

The mismatched memory section and the 970 section should explain everything you need to know.
And rest assured only the 970 has the issue to date.
