im currently running pent 4, 3.4 ghz 1 gb of ram that i bought from ibuypower.com, this issue im having with this is for some reason games are running horribly slow, the framerate is terrible and the game is literally running in almost slow motion. I've tried almost all the different drivers and they arent making any difference. I've called tech support and they are possibly the dumbest people i've ever talked to, (they said it was a software issue and i need at least a 6800 gt to run games like world of warcraft and half life 2), can anyone give me a suggestion as to what to do ?

9700 mobility is way more than enough for games like world of warcraft ... it runs perfect on mine.

Did you try a format/restore? You might have some spyware running in the background and eating resources! Do you have Ad-aware to check for such stuff?

I play Half Life 2 with a ATI MR9700 and I've only got 512MB of RAM, and it's decent. If you have your settings up way high, you could lower those. Also, do a virus and spyware scan, like what qwester said. You never know.

This is off topic, but I'm excited to upgrade to 2GB of RAM (you have to love NewEgg). Then Half Life 2 should be much more enjoyable.

World of Warcraft will run very good, but the 9700 card wont work on Bf2.

    I have a MR 9600.

I have everything set to medium with Dynamic Shadows / Light turned to low. Anti aliasing set to 2x.

You can't get this or a 9700 to run this game on high. Unless you enjoy 5 fps.

I have a 9800XT in my desktop, and I run it at the absolute highest settings! You should optimize your system to play games, that will help (stop un-necessary services, defragment, etc).

I am not surprised the MR9700 can run on high, as that is a pretty powerful card. HL2 should have no problems, even with AA/AF. I can run it at full settings with 4XAF and 2XAA in widescreen 1280x800 on my laptop, and it has a GeForce4 440 Go 64M!

Far Cry should also be great on a MR9700. Doom3 and Halo, probably not....they are really shader intensive games, and the MR9700 only has 4 pixel pipes.

Considering that you have a MR9600, I would strongly suggest turning off the AA, as that requires a lot of power and really takes up memory bandwidth. That would improve performance noticably, and you would be able to turn up some of the other options.

developers should definatly follow the lead of the people that made half life 2 and spend more time optimizing there games to run on lower cards.
