How does the 9700m GT perform in relation to the 8800m GTS or GTX? Specifically I am looking at the Asus G50v.

    Thanks.

It's very similar to the 8800M GTS.

Actually, from looking around it seems that the 8800M GTS is a fair bit better than the 9700M GT. For 3dmark06 scores the 8800M GTS got scores of around 8000, whereas the 9700M GT was closer to 6000.

The 9700m GT is supposed to be quite less powerful than the 8800m GTS. On the other hand, the 9700m GTS is more powerful than the 9700m GT and perhaps equal to the 8800m GTS.

I guess I'm looking for the most powerful (and not uber expensive) GPU in a 15.4" laptop. I now 8800m GTS or GTX are out of the question since it's a $3000 lappie either way.

3DMark06 6000 score isn't a significant enough jump to justify the cost from a 4700 score of my 8600m GT O/C'd.

What that Sager looks nice. A little on the pricey side, but definitely a good option with the 9800m GT.

the 9700M GT is a mid-range card since its limited by the 128-bit memory interface.... which translate it to being slightly faster than the 9600M GT.

the 9700M GTS, however, is considered high-end with its 256-bit memory interface.... which helps it beat out mid-range cards in performance quite significantly, but still cannot get close to any 8800M or 9800M cards.

For high-end comparisons (256-bit mem interface):
9700M GTS has 48 shaders while the lowest 8800M GTS has 64 shaders.

No its not really. Plus the big limiting factor with cards in laptops is heat output. Put one in and you could literally melt your laptop/components.

So do u recomend that dont change the GPU for the heat output that may cause to their components. Is better stay with the original GPU and maybe change only the CPU?

I'm searching for a laptop that may be upgradeable when the times may needed, and i dont know if i look for the best GPU and then later on upgrade the CPU or otherwise... That is for my budget restrictions xD

    Thks in advance
