    Any thoughts?

Digital Storm recently came out with their Dominator notebook based on the 2nd generation Flextronic/Arima chasis of the Alienware m9750, however with dual ATI Crossfire 3870. It's complete with Montevina platform, HDMI & eSATA ports, 2 HD's, back lit keys.

Granted that the offering is a bit pricey, but intriguing nonetheless.

Likely the ati will be a bit more powerful... but I don't like ATI, so I'm sticking with nVidia on the 9800M GTX.

We also don't know much about the 9800M GTX. We do know it will have 1GB of DDR3, on either a 256 or 512-bit bus, 112SPUs and will be on a completely new card and core. My guesses, 55nm fab process, out of the box PhysX, and a redesigned core architecture. We'll see how it does in a couple weeks when more info is available.

Dit_xi, I am in the same boat- and actually made a post a couple days back. The consensus seems to be the HD 3870s in Crossfire will blow away the Nvidia 9800s at a price of course. You should check out the OCZ from http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_M1/ it's a lot less expensive with the same specs. I am currently torn between that and a Sager 5796.

edit- Does anyone have actual benchmarks for the HD 3870s in xfire? I want to know just how much it will beat the 9800s by

If you guys have any specific hardware questions about this notebook, I can ask the guys over at OCZ - I'm currently in talks about implementing this notebook. I'll make sure to ask them about the benchmarks, but i don't know if they'd have them.

they HD 3870 isnt out yet, so performance benchmarks arent out, and notebookcheck is full of lies so dont rely on it.

the HD 3870 was supposed to be the direct competition to the 8800GTX not the 9800GTX, so i think that a single 9800GTX will still beat a single 3870.

i know you are talking about crossfire mate, just clearing things out, But Logicaly the Crossfire setup will not be better, and since ATI is doing Crossfire in notebooks for first time, i'd think its performance wouldnt be as everyone is willing. Nobody knows what Surprises ATI is holding, but thats only my thoughts.

Why don't you go to Flextronics directly and bypass the OCZ middle man?

    http://www.flextronics.com/arima/ViewProduct.asp?View=174

I hope you price this system as competitively as CyberPowerPC:

Their reputation, however, is less than stellar.

Im not a big fan of crossfire/SLi....yet. But as of now I would go for the ATi solution if price is basically the same (~$270 for crossfire 3870 is not bad at all). I wont get into the nvidia issue that is going on now, as I havent had a reputable confirmation that the 9xxx series is effected.

Reportedly, this notebook will accomodate a single 9800GTX card. Ask 'em if it'll take 9800GTX in SLI. Thanx!

laptop chipsets are different then desktops, i dont think there are actually seperate SLI and XFIRE chipsets, although no one really knows cause XFIRE has not been done in a notebook til now.
