Hers step-by-step on how to flash a video BIOS:

    1. Unistall your old driver, restart, press F8 on splash screen and boot Windows in Safe Mode, use Driver Swiper to clean the Nvidia content, restart, instal the DOX drivers
    2. Download HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool
    3. Download Windows 98 system files
    4. Once installed use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool select your USB Device, check-mark "Create a DOS startup disk" and under "Using DOS system files located at:" click on the box with "...", locate the previously saved Windows 98 system files which were extracted into a folder
    5. Hit Start and let the application do its job (it should take around 10min or less)
    6. Once that's done download Nvflash and extract the content into the USB Key (root folder)
    7. Save the two provided ROM's called NEWBIOS.ROM and OLDBIOS.ROM into the key (root folder)
    8. Restart the computer
    9. On splash screen press Esc, select USB as bootable device (sometimes you may need to repeat the process until it boots through the USB)
    10. You should see a Windows 98 dos splash screen then the prompt
    11. Type
    12. It will ask you to press "Y" to proceed
    13. If all is done right it will say the flash was sucessful so you press Ctrl + Alt + Del and the computer will restart
    14. Done :)

Just flashing the BIOS of the card will make it perform better?

    Yes

The Geforce 9800M GS is an underclocked Geforce 9800M GTS which is why it's only a matter of flashing the GTS BIOS with higher clocks in order to yield the extra performance.

Have you stress tested the card at GTS clocks?

That's an important step I think you're missing here.

Is there any benefit in flashing rather than just setting the clocks higher on a 9800M GS?

That could be because the GTS is 1GB, so the drivers don't see it as a GTS.

I still don't get why this is a good idea... If you can overclock it to those clocks, just do that. That's why ntune loads the clocks at startup.

Being able to have your system say "GTS" instead of "GS" is not worth possible bricking something.

Because a modified BIOS will allow you to change the voltage if required.

It doesn't change the GS to GTS either way, all you're doing in the BIOS is modifying the clocks.

The GS is the same card as the GTS except with lower clocks.

Yeah, but changing the clocks in the BIOS isn't going to cause the card to report itself as a GTS was my point.

I'm curious, is the 9800 GS identical to the 9800 GTS spec-wise? Is it truly just an underclocked version of the GTS?

Yes, the specs other than the clocks are completely identical. We know that the Geforce 9800M GS is the same GPU as the Geforce 9800M GTS with lower clocks, but it is also believed that some of the GS cards are the production line of unstable GTS cards underclocked for more stability. This does not mean that all the Geforce 9800M GS cards are incapable of withstanding GTS clocks as there have been quite a few successful users so far, but since no two graphics cards are the same this does mean the chances of not being able to handle these speeds is higher for some.
