Hi I bought an ASUS G50Vt-X5 (NVIDIA 9800M GS card) recently and it's been running very great.
I can put almost any games into it at a decent graphic setting =D

here are some questions regarding my card:

    1. I can play cod waw single/coop smoothly on medium to high graphic at native resolution but somehow the multiplayer does not run well with native resolution even on very low setting =/ Does anyone have the same issue?

    2. http://img69.imageshack.us/i/imagexmq.jpg/
It has a fairly high idle clock and temp.. Is it normal or is it some kind of driver issue? im using 197.16 driver
------solved-------- reisntalled everything with driversweeper, error during previous installation, also new driver makes my cod playable

    **new question:
    1. I upgraded my OS to win7 x64 2 days after purchase. I was able to find every driver and they are working fine. I just could not make the media Fn key to work properly. whenever i press Fn+down it opens the windows media center instead of play/pause function. Any solution?

    thanks for looking :)

That's a fairly high idle temp...did you buy the laptop used? What's the load temp?

If so, you may want to clean the heatsink of dust buildup, and maybe apply some better thermal compound to lower the temps :)

room temp can affect our idle GPU temp by at most 10 degrees, mine runs idle at 45 ish, 68 is kinda too high, specs in the signature.

I believe dust doesnt have anything to do with the heat issue. It has something to do with the driver and idling clock... Does anyone know the normal idle clock and the driver used?

It seems your 9800M GS doesn't want to downclock while on idle, it explains the high idle temp. Switching your drivers to another stable one hould solve.
I am currently using Dox's 195.62 drivers, which runs great and gives me the best performance over all Nvidia drivers. Here is the address for Dox's 195.62 drivers: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/26002-forceware-19562/

Choose the 1.1 version and your corresponding OS to download. Be sure to unintall the old drivers correctly and run the driver sweeper in safe mode before you install the new one.

The normal idle clock for 9800M GS is 168(core)/337(shader)/100(memory), if it's not running at this speed while on idle, the powermizer isn't working the way it's supposed to be.Also how is the temp under heavy load?

You can also download and activate Powermizer Switch and see if that helps. 197.25 didn't want to downclock until I used it.

or with 195.62 drivers , u can use the Rivatuner tweak by REB which will automatically cause ur card to downclock when idle and in a way undervolt ur card... also blow ur fans with compressed air , will reduce temps by a lot... anyways , link for tweak.. try it.. my GPU temps went down by 10C with OC and load...

have u tried seeing if it downclocks properly? my tweak is quite good even if it stays cool as it undervolts GPU making it cooler and with no hassle.

I'm facing a similar problem after having no heating problems. I dunno what I did, but suddenly my GPU's unwilling to downclock. I'll try your methods.

yep, the clock and temp stays really low while idling.

    Testing testing 1, 2, 3...testing...

Ok, got the DOX drivers installed. The only thing different I did from the Rivatuner guide was go to settings and checkmark "Run at Windows startup via Startup registry key."

    Idle clocks are at 168.8/100/337.5

GPU temp went from 61 after reboot to 55. Hoping it drops even further. Ideal idle temps before I started having this problem were low to mid 40s.

This is a huge improvement over yesterday. I had temps that ranged from 64 to sometimes as high as 74--while just surfing the web!!!!

I'm satisfied for now that it's at 55 degrees celsius. My one question is, will these settings nicely accommodate hardware acceleration for watching youtube vids under Flash 10.1 when it gets finalized and released?

Slight problem. I've been testing youtube vids using Flash 10.1 RC2. It seems as though hardware acceleration's isn't getting proper usage. It's skippy. My temps have now lowered to 52C but now my performance is down too.

I ran L4D2. Temps rose, but performance didn't! It lags hella lot and the clock speeds don't rise! Did I miss something when I utilized Rivatuner? Isn't the GPU supposed to overclock itself?

I've uninstalled Riva and DOX drivers and reinstalled 186.82. It seems like the old settings from Rivatuner are stuck or something. I keep getting fluctuations from 55-64....

the drivers which have so far worked for me are 186.81 official and 195.62 official.. no problems with video playback.. also in the riva tuner stats server , u might want to make firefox/IE use GPU acceleration when playing videos... also remember once ur done , close firefox so the card can downclock and open again to surf web...otherwise cards will stay on full power.. plz thank REB for the tweak.. helped my laptop way cooler especially in games.

How exactly do I set that in Rivatuner? I have a lot of time today, so I'm open to learning.

Dammit, I'm starting to have problems now! I can't enable "Hardware Acceleration" as shown on step 6 from the Rivatuner guide!

    197.16
Here's how i did it: I uninstall my previous one, restarted to safe mode, clean using driver sweeper, reboot then install the 197.16
