Heya guys, I'm about to buy a laptop in like 3 hours...I'm deciding between MSI's GX400, or Lenovo's T500.
It's just going to boil down to the graphical power alone. Which one is better gaming-wise?
-
please refer to the GPU Guide
you will know that the amount of video memory means NOTHING in performance.... its just a gimmick to trick the unsuspecting.
the GPU itself is what matters.
the Nvidia 9800M is a high-end (256-bit memory interface) GPU
the ATI HD 3650 is a mid-range (128-bit) GPU
a high-end GPU will easily outperform a mid-range GPU by over 2 times in gaming performance. -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
Just get 9800m GT
-
Thanks guys, I'll decide on the MSI GX400 in this case. It's half the cost of the T500 anyway, even though I can't get great battery life out of it, but I'll just buy another battery
-
Don't you mean 9 600?
-
GX400 is a 14 inch laptop. 9800m doesn't appear in 14 inch laptop. GX400 generally has a 256mb Nvidia 9600m GT; which is still better than 3650 by a long way.

wait a minute...a 9800m gt?...where...in a MSI GX400?...thats not possible :S
-
I see.... well if its a 9600M GT, then its just a mid-range card like the ATI 3650.
both are pretty much comparable in performance. -
Huh!? Doesn't the MSI GX400 have a 9600m GT? Either way the 9600m GT is still better than the ATI 3650.

Difference isn't that big apparently. 1000 points in 3dmark06. With the thinkpad, your paying for tank built quality, much better keypad, and service after sell is gonna to be better. If you are lucky, there are 20% off on thinkpads as well through coupons. -

If GPU doesn't matter as such, and you're happy to live with 9300m:

The difference between the 9600GT and 3650 is marginal, assuming both are using GDDR3 (I know the T500 does). 3dmark, I believe, favors Nvidia slightly from what I've heard, and also, different games are optimized for either Nvidia or ATI - such a small difference between the cards would result in overall very similar performance. The 9600GT may outperform the 3650 in some games, and vice versa in others.
Overall quality-wise, the T500 is by generally regarded to be better, so I would recommend it over the GX400. -
Please read the stickies before posting. The GPU Guide, as mentioned, is a good place to get started.
9800M GT 256mb GDDR3 or Lenovo's ATI 3650 256mb?
