    Ello!

I'm about to buy a lovely Clevo 901C with a Q9550 processor, 4gb ram and all the bells and whistles, only thing I'm stumped on is the GFX. Where as the 9800M GTX is pretty much standard over in the US atm, over here in the UK they're asking an extra £210 ($320) to upgrade from the GT to the GTX.

After looking at all the benchmarks etc, I decided that it probably wasn't worth it for the money, could I just confirm this with you guys?? The other thing is that for £240 more, you can get 2 9800M GT cards in SLI. This seems a bit rediculous to me after asking £210 for the GTX. Dya reckon it's worth forking out the extra moolah for the SLI??

Cheers in advance, getting ever closer to actualy buying this thing!

    I don't think it's worth $320 (£210) either.

Once you're in a game configuring the settings, you won't see any major visual improvement, it's just a frame rate comparison at that point, but the 9800M GT can get above that minimum threshold at high settings so the GTX isn't worth £210 :

Take a look at Crysis in particular.

I really don't think it's worth that much extra money IMO. You are just talking a couple fps, but nothing dramatic overall. Stick with the 9800m GT and mabye upgrade something else later. Trust me, you'll be satisfied with the 9800M GT!

If you can afford the 9800M GT SLI, I would recommend you do so. These days the scaling in most games is very high ~70-90%. It will significantly increase the lifespan of your machine especially when paired with the Q9550.

I'm trying to find if I can buy a 9800M GT card on its own for upgrading in the future atm, not sure I wanna fork out so much. Does anyone know where you can buy them and if so, how much for?

I'm still getting pangs of dread on spending so much on a laptop and not just building another PC for half the price..

I would go for a desktop + netbook combo. mobile graphics cards are much more expensive than more powerful desktop ones. a 9800m gt will definitely cost you more than £250. for that money you can get much more performance if you're building a desktop.

If you have the opportunity to build a laptop, do so.

Anyone know if Clevo plans to release a laptop that can take desktop processors and DDR3 ram in the near future? As in between now and Jan next year, that would be a sure fire buy from me

9800M GT is twin of 8800M GTX.
So you can take that too if you wanna save a little more money.
