I'm so sorry, I didn't have the crysis benchmark tool on Vista so I used the default test. I'll download the Crysis tool right now, so we'll be clear on everything.

anyway 1280x1024 was an average of 32.84..I'll be right back so we can clear things up, ok? :D

So sorry this take so long, server will not let me log in. Hell, I had to download the benchmark tool and run the darn thing. You guys with your cool running 98GTS’s and cool running xTreme processors have to wait dammit!

    Now here!

It was the default benchmark, but it's all good.

Hell yeah we are! No freaking way you're going to only drop 1 - 2 FPS changing those resolutions from 1280 to 1900, no way!

Here is my 1680-1050 DX10 results.

it really wasn't about a win...just that the 9800m gts is a nice card and bit more than a slight upgrade from the 8800m gts. (talking abut the 8800m gts and not gtx)

I can't touch 26FPS 1900x1200, so no need for me to cry over it. It might stop me from posting, but I'll get over it...I hope. You have a desktop score, so playing Crysis for you with your GTS at 1900x1200 kicks the chit out of mine.

Better than the 9800m GT? Hardware wise no still 64 SP´s versus 96 SP´s. 9800m GTS starts off their clocks at core 600 compared to 9800m GT at 500. So really easy to push the 9800m GTS to Core 700+, meanwhile you must overvolt the 9800m GT to reach the same speeds.

However those shader processors isn´t there for nothing you know. I wouldn´t put a 64 SP card as better than a 96 SP card.

Crysis also relies on CPU speed. Those with an extreme CPU for instance do have a higher framerate than say an 2.5 GHz Core2Duo. Simple as that.

More and more games now is shader intensive and more will become that in the future, thus those extra 32 Shader Processors is really good to have. However the 9800m GTS is not a bad card at all as can be seen.

Some put that the new Crysis benchmark is flawed. I´m not sure, I always run with the built in .bat benchmark in the Crysis folder anyway.

Well if the 8800MGTX=9800M GT, and the 9800M GTS performs less than 1% less than the 9800M GT, then I guess the 8800M GTX is stronger by 1%. :)

Magnus, this is not a utility that performs it's own benchmark. It's just a GUI that interfaces the benchmark already built by/for Crysis. The .bat file, that you speak of.. I believe ;)

I know you're just informing of what some other people claim.. this isn't directed at you. But, how could it be flawed vs. the .bat run?

Actually I am not sure if it is flawed or not :) Just have read on other forums, but as you said how can it be flawed when it does use the same .bat.

Some claimed it has a bug. However I will download this util and test it myself. It is a nifty util and you have lots of control.

    In reference to the original topic of this thread;

Basically, the 9800m GTS' framerate is comparable to that of the 9800m GT / 9800m GTX, why?, because of the higher clock speeds, and usually, the 9800m GTS is backed up by a powerful processor.

The 9800m GTS, paired up with the Intel Core 2 Extreme X9100, can really get higher framerates than a 8800m GTX / 9800m GT or a 9800m GTX at Crysis for example, due to its clock speed alone, mind you, think of it as Dual Core VS Quad Core, this being the Higher Clock Speed Dual Core.

Now, we take a 9800m GT, paired up with any processor that does not bottleneck it, let's say, T9400, now, since Crysis is dependant on the CPU-Power as well, a video card won't be the only bottleneck for the game, but also a slow processor, not saying that the T9400 is slow or anything, but, the X9100 beats it at clock speed, and Crysis gives it a slower framerate, let's think of this as Quad Core, this being the Lower Clock Speed Quad Core.

Notice something?, sure, the 9800m GTS' Clock Speed and the X9100's Clock Speed matter more than the count of shader processors in the 9800m GT, if it is paired with a T9400, but, if Crysis' settings are turned to Very High, and the resolution is sent rocketing to 1920x1200, then there is higher of a chance for the 9800m GT to beat the 9800m GTS no matter what processor it is paired with, the reason?, the higher number of Shader Processors, which do the shading, the more shader-intensive the game is, the faster than the 9800m GTS the 9800m GT and GTX will play it, although, there are not a lot of too shader-intensive games, except for Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Mass Effect, it is like the situation of Dual Core VS Quad Core right now, most of the applications are Single-Threaded, and some are Double-Threaded, and the Higher-Clock-Speed Dual Core wins, but, only a few of them are Multi-Threaded, and on Multi-Threaded is where the Quad Core shines.

Now, as some have asked before, why is it that the 9800m GTS' SM 2.0 and 3.0 are lower and sometimes much lower than those of the 9800m GT and GTX?, the reason, those measure the shading power of the card, at shading power, the GTS does not stand a chance against the GT or GTX (64 Shader Processors VS 96 Shader Processors and 112 Shader Processors).

Games that are really shader-intensive will show the difference between the GTS, GT and GTX, but, those are not too abundant, but their number is growing as newer games come out, on normal / non-shader-intensive games, you won't notice a difference in performance between a GTS, a GT and a GTX.

The 9800m GTS, is nothing more but an overclocked 8800m GTS (which was weaker than the 8800m GTX) with a newer core that allows for more overclocking, but it is really working on the edge of its performance, and overclocking it even further can lead to disastrous outcomes in the middle-long / long-term, it is like adding Nitro to a Honda, its engine might take it, but not for long, and if you add even more Nitro... well, the engine might just stop working, or explode in a rain of metallic shrapnel.
