I was just in the other thread and someone posted a link to the upcoming laptop with 9800m.

1)I was just wondering if this is going to be in 15" chassis?

2)Also How powerful is 9800M compared to single 8800GTX and 2 8800GTX's running in SLI mode?

3)And also 3d question, are they going to release 9900 or 10xx series for desktops or laptops soon?

*Please provide your performance forecasts/analysis in terms of Crysis' and few other current games' fps's.

    1) its impossible to say, but if anyone does it, it will probably be alienware / sager-clevo

    2) more powerful than 8800mgtx... no comment on SLI'd 8800gtx

    3) yes, eventually nvidia will release new gpu's. regardless of the name they decide to give it, it is going to come out.

Crysis quality and performance will improve with more modern GPU's. Other games like CoD4 will also run better.

Agreed, although a few years ago Asus did do a revolutionary x1600/7600 256mb into a 14in. But then again thats no top graphics in a 15in laptop.

Thanks for your posts, so far, I was just wondering because I'm thinking about getting either desktop or laptop, and I look on website and desktops like $3000 for dual 9800 SLI config and sweet 28" screen.

    I think for $3-4k I can just get Montevina + 9800m + SSD laptop.

However I like to have dual computer setup with 28" lcd and small laptop at my side and also I like Eagletech Dragon case it looks sooooo sexy :)

I'm just not sure how much value I get out of $3k desktop if it's still gonna suck @ Crysis and be overkill in other games compared to similiarly priced laptop!

So I'm just trying to get idea of fps that I get in UT3 and Crysis using the new laptops with 9800m and Montevina to better picture the performance mileu and how they match up against desktops.

Also I was thinking of connecting the laptop to 28' lcd screen but not sure how much sense it makes since it's gonna sit on my desk all the time so I might as well get a desktop...

There is a 15 inch EUrocom i Saw last night that on their website that has a 9800m in 15 inch: it will probably be insane

I am guessing it will be around 8800mGTS speeds for the 9800mGT. The GTX will be probably like a smaller nm than 8800mGTX with slight advantage in speed and power...i feel like i just wasted money on my 8800mSLI! argh...enjoy whatever laptop you get..Nvidia graphics rule!

I'm seeing the 8800M GTS as the 9650M GT or 9700M GT. Maybe 9700M GTS but the 9800M should definetely be more powerfull.

well looking to desktops i dont think the diffrence will be big actually... just pimped 8800's on a smaller die. And im sure we dont see the gt212 in laptops anytime soon since it will generate way to much heat. GT200 come sto desktops in July i think but it has alot of problems!!!

    1) You should visit the Sager/Clevo section, currently Sager has confirmed with Clevo that the M860TU will not use 9800M GTX, FYI. Not sure about AW though, I doubt that they will update the m15x anytime soon.

    2) I remember it was 112SP in the 9800M GTX before the page was pulled down by nVIDIA, so that should be 16.66666666666666666666666666666666666.....% :D increase in raw power. [the 8800M GTX has 96SP]

    3) No info yet, but I think it's not gonna be anytime soon because the GTX 280's core (GT 200 core I think) is even bigger than the G80 so there's still lots of modification needs to be done to fit it in a lappy

The 15inch M860TU will NOT HAVE the 9800M GTX, only the 9800M GTS.

The only laptop confirmed with the 9800M GTX at this point is the Clevo M570TU ,which is a 17 incher.

I dont think the 9800 is a next gen card, its just a die shrunk and optimized 8800. I expect a performance gain of around 20-30% while the real next gen which is no where to be seen yet would give at least 60% performance increase over a 9800. but never wait, need it buy it. and for the topic starter with your 3k-4k budget. i would spend 2k on a desktop should be good for Q6600(OC it to 3ghz) and some SLi 8800GT or even 9800GTX, and spnd the rest on something like a XPS m1330. just my 2 cents

well, 9800gx2 is like having 2 9800gtx in SLi on the same card. its got 2 9800gtx gpu cores on the same card. but if you want extreme performance, 3 way SLi 9800gtx is the way to go, not SLi 9800gx2

nope, 3 way 8800GTX would be better then 3 way 9800GTX, they are still the king until something else more powerful is released.
