I am considering purchasing the MSI GT627 ( http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=135&cat2_no=271&prod_no=1670) whenever it comes out, but I am wondering if waiting for it will be worth it. I know the 9800m GS has a 256-bit memory bus as well as more power, at the sake of battery life though.
I plan on getting a MSI laptop with a 1680 x 1050 resolution and to do some picture editing as well as gaming of course(of which I'd like to use my native resolution for). Will I notice much of a difference in terms of game settings and speed in picture editing? And, as the title suggests, would purchasing a 9800m GS over a 9600m GT worth it, mostly in terms of a few years down the road? If not.. how could it be worth it, who would benefit mostly from this card, hardcore gamers looking for a temporary gaming fix for the next year or so?
Any answer is greatly appreciated! Thanks.![]()

Definitely Yes! 9800M GS is 256-bit as compared to 9600M GT which is 128-bit.

The 9600 GT is a mainstream dedicated graphics card, any Nvidia card that's number is 800 or higher is a highend card. Even though it just says 'GS', it's a fantastic card and will power through mostly everything. For sure go with the 9800 GS.

Very much worth it!
Forget a few years down the road, the 9600 will at best last as a gaming card through the end of next year. The 9800 will add a year and a half on to that. -
Yes, it's definitely worth it. Going from 2 laptops with a Geforce 9500M GS to a Geforce 9800M GS I can't emphasise enough the overall performance increase in 3ds Max rendering, texturing in Photoshop, and of course gaming. Don’t get me wrong my Geforce 9500M GS is plenty for mainstream tasks, but the Geforce 9800M GS just makes it a more pleasing experience in getting the job done faster and more efficient. But if you're looking for something on the go then the Geforce 9600M GT will provide you both power and flexibility while saving you plenty more battery life on he move.
9800m GS over 9600m GT--is it worth it?
