equal me thinks, i would say the 3870's have the edge, depending on how optimized the drivers are.

3870 may have more edge but the 9800m gtx will run games smoother even at lower frames, ati's cards stutter in many games especially in crossfire, i mean look at the complaints with the ati cards in crysis and farcry2, plsu i tried a 4870 and had the same issue

I think the true measurement of which card will give you the best bang for the buck is which card is more future proof.

Right now, people with the 9800 GTX SLI are saying they are not even seeing that much of a difference in performance over 9800 GT in SLI.

Could there be a new driver in the mix that will unleash the power in this card if it is truly under performing?

9800M GTX SLI will be faster and smoother. RV670 in Crossfire is not so hot, I used to run a pair of HD 3850s. RV670 also trips and chokes on itself the instant AA is enabled.

I will counter HaloGod and say that the Radeon HD 4870, however, is silky smooth, and will be pretty awesome when it hits notebooks. At 8xAA the improved ROPs on the 4870 can meet or exceed the GTX 280 in some instances.

here's the thing, im just getting my affairs in order but within the next two weeks, im buying a nagamaki with dual 3870s in the setup... Do I have to be worried for running games like farcry 2/GTA 4/Assassin's Creed/Fallout 3 (Oblvion)? I mean right now my desktop is running oblivion on 4x aa with high settings on a 1680x1050 resolution with tolerable lag on an x800xt platinum AGP, thats what I used for reference.

im hearing about 3 months - thats okay i wont have all the money together for between 3 and 6months anyway, but that depends on hw quick i can sell my 9262 and how much i get for it.

ill most likly wait for a couple of week to a month after they have come out so i can get an idea of how good they are before deciding on what to do.

two 4870's will dominate the 9800GTX easily. Right now if you are puchasing the OCZ whitebook - I think it would be wise to just purchase one 3870 with it - and upgrade two 2 x 4870's later and just sell off the 3870. That's the best option IMOP.

yeah but one 3870 aint as good a one 8800m GTX, so i think ill wait til the 4870's come out and upgrade to them

any idea what 4870 in CrossFire will do against 9800m GTX SLI?

while that would shave off about $250 from my setup, if there's a dated source that the 4870s will come around by new year's or at least the start of q2, I might consider doing it... In the meantime though, with one 3870 and a QX9300 for cpu horsepower, will problems start to show up for the games I aforementioned in my last post on this thread?

think about it - these cards are but a couple months away and honestly that's like 250 saved. + it's the pain of selling TWO x 3870's instead of 1. Trust me with the economy the way it is nobody wants to buy even if there's a great deal going on that they should pick up in an instant. like the notebook in my sig for instance.

im not sure, i would say wait for the 4870's ive seen (as in from posts on net) two 3870 doing quite good in games but not one. two of them seemto be good / better then a single 8800m GTX

so far there are only speculations of 4870 and couple of fake pics around the internet. It took ATI pretty long to release the mobile version of 3870 so I wouldn't get to excited for now. The GTX SLI for now is the absolute king in the mobile performance.

its king but dual 3870 is king for performance/price ratio
remember, you're not getting any large performance advantage with the GTX SLi

First, double posting i shighly unnecessary.

Second, Although these may be guesses, lets not be so quick ot judge there.

And if they are guesses who cares, maybe others ar einterestedin seeing what other members think. I don't think deleting thier posts would be necessary for any reason.

yes performance to price its the best deal so far. But I think the $1999 deal from Toshiba with SLI GTS will be very close to 3870 in crossfire. So the Ocz whitebook wont hod its throne here for a long time. Also I yet have to see some OCZ Crysis benchmarks cause 17fps in everything maxed out is far far less from what GTX SLI can achieve so the performance increase is very noticeable.

whoa!? 4GB of Vram!? Crysis maxed with 4xAA at 2560x1600 will not require more framebuffer than 1.2GB. to fully use the 4BG Vram. I'd imagine 1024bit pipe with GDDR5. so not today mate.

as of the topic: I have heard that ATi card scales better in CF and they can handle AA better. is that true?
