Heya,
Does anyone have any info on a 9800m gs. I have seen this card in a new Asus laptop sold at BB, but i can not find any benchmarks or specs for it.

mmm it looks strange to me I would say they did a mistake, probably it's 9800 gts..
-
I think it is a typo and it is g ts
also,i think it is useless to have 13...x7.. res on a 16" notebook with 9800gts -
I saw it in the store yesterday and it said 9800gs on the actually laptop
-
u mean the sticker on the laptop itself or just the print ads standing nxt to the laptop? if its the latter, it happens a lot of times..its called typo..
-
sticker on the laptop with the nvidia logo on it.

The guy mentions 9800M GT in here. Not sure how true that is. -
I m pretty sure its a GTS. Thats a good deal though. 15'6 with a nice GPU for $1249. I use to have those G50 with a 9700 and it already had some heating issues so we ll have to wait for some reviews of that thing.

Awesome thanks for all the responses.

You're starting to see laptops with 1366x768 because it puts them in line with HDTV standards. 16:9
Aka, you can watch 720 and 1080p video without changes to aspect ratio or black bars. -
-
So how does 9800 GS compares to, say 9800 GTS?
-
There is no 9800M GS, unless they're dropping the 'T' from 'GTS'.
-
That is possible actually since the GTS < GT... which makes no sense.
-
seriously, they are just two small bars, I don't know why people hate them so much.
just think of the extra scrolling you will be doing with 768 lines vertical -
According to a gpu-z screen I saw posted by Rushmeat, the 9800M GS is a downclocked 9800M GTS (it has the same number of shader processors [64], the same chip [G94 M] and the same memory bus [256-bit] but different clock speeds). It is probably downclocked for heat reasons, so essentially, if one was to overclock it, it would be the same as the 9800M GTS.
-
if so ... interesting -
formerly known as the 9700m GTS?
I liked the old orange paint... but a 9800 for this price and size is hot! -
Man you Yankees are lucky. Best Buy Canada only sells PII MMX notebooks.

wow! that's an awesome price for a system with w/e card it has (likely 9800m GTS?)...
-
Here you go guys, I found all the needed information regarding this laptop on this page:

Should clear it all up for all of you. -
thanks for the link.
This notebook is looks like a competitor of the high end 15" market segment (Clevo 860tu and Alienware m15x being the other competitors). -
wow why cant Asus ever make a laptop that doesnt have a 1.5" thick bezel; it may be 15" but judging from the bezel id say its bigger than the Sager 8660
good price though -
-
it should be a typo, its the 9800m gts, and wow thats a pretty good deal, 15.6 frame and a highend video card. good cpu as well
-
-
9800 GS is a down clocked 9800 GTS
-
If so, then if you use nTune to OC it, it should be the same as a 9800M GTS right?
-
-
If the card is designed for that large of a difference, then upclocking it to 9800m GTS speeds may not be such a grand idea without additional cooling and may not make it at all.
Setting an 8600 to 8700 clocks was a huge risk, and the 8700 could go even furthur due to the better power and cooling available to it.
Note that how they power and cool that 9800m GS will matter quite a bit.
Remember, there is a reason they used a lesser GPU... and power and cooling were the most likely culprits.
That being said, its still nice, and if it IS just a downclocked GTS, that would be great.
The 8600m GT was however definitely NOT a downclocked 8700m GT. -
If it gets the sqame score as an 8800m GTS in a smaller form factor then I think it is worth the money.
-
The clock speed doesn't really matter. What matters is the memory bandwidth and number of shaders.
-
Hey if its About a 9800GTS Just Lower It would be about 75-80% Desktop 9600GT Speed (If you look at specs a 9800GTS is basically a 9600GT in mobile form. Same core same clocks oftentimes etc)
-
-
Not only upclocked but using higher voltage and probably other bios tweaks for the 8700m GT compared to the 8600m GT.

ARom you are using those benchmarks pretty much everywhere.

-
Really a great deal I must admit.
-
Nice deal but it's **** heavy for a considering its screen size.
-
gaming comes at a weight. Name me one 256bit GPU 15-16" laptop lighter than 7lbs
-
Mine is on the way

Qosmio F55 with the 256-bit Nvidia 9700M GTS 512MB. Personally weighed it at 6.5 pounds. I hope this answers your question. God Bless -
The ASUS G50Vt is 6.5-6.8lbs with battery based on a quick measurement I made at Best Buy. The additional .5-.8 lbs comes from the power brick I believe.

hmm put an SSD in here you'll lose some more weight

Haven't used one in action, but from what I can tell, it's a solid card with excellent bang for the buck performance.
Pretty sure it's an underclocked 9800m g ts, if I'm not mistaken.
