    nvidia geforce 9800m gs
intel core duo 2.13ghz cpu p7450
    4GB of PC-5300 DDR2 RAM
    320GB hard drive

does anyone know how i can get a nvidia geforce 9800m gs for this laptop from asus instead of some guy in hong kong on ebay? i contacted nvidia and asus both about replacing my card and compatibility of any other cards with my mother board and case configuration and was informed that i could only use the identical card that came with it and that i could only obtain the part through sending my laptop back to asus or to best buy and paying for it to be serviced by them. how can that guy in hong kong have the card available for sale to anyone and in the "new" condition? how do i know the card really is new? how do i know it has been stored properly? how can i get this graphics card refurbished?

also does anyone know anything about connecting mini pcie express to pcie express using male connector for the mini pcie express side and female pcie express slot and buy with or make wire harnesses for these connectors? can you "hardwire" your new pc gpu using a desktop power supply without any adapter in-line between the card and the mini pcie express connector on the motherboard? is the signal loss from the resistance on the "wire harnesses" substantial enough to consider in choosing the cable length?

Woah, that's many questions you are asking there. First, if you are unsure about the condition of the graphic card you are eyeing on, contact the seller, it's the only way. If you are out of warranty, forget about best buy or asus, they are going to charge you an arm or leg for the card.

Ebay is your best bet to get the replacement, and I think you care too much about the condition about the card, 9800M gs is more than 3 years old, it's highly unlikely you can find one with "brand new" condition, most of the cards sold on ebay are taken from broken/refurbished laptops, meaning they are used. Well, even replacements from best buy or ebay are NOT always "brand new" cards you might be expecting, many of them are taken from broken/problematic laptops too, I know people in the business and they do this all the time.

Another note to add, you can get a gtx 260M from asus g51 on ebay, it works 100% in g50. It's more expensive than 9800M gs but it is faster, just an option you might want to consider.

About the last few questions, I am not sure I understand what you mean, but I think you can look into this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/418851-diy-egpu-experiences.html

thank you for your help lidowxx. the diy egpu link is great. about the "gtx 260M from asus g51 on ebay, it works 100% in g50." are you implying that i can swap my burnt 9800m gs card for a new(or used/working) gtx 260m? i mean swap it and play as easily as if i were replacing my burnt 9800m gs with a new(used/working) 9800m gs? like the card fits the same and has the same cooling requirements? and whatever else i dont know about? and finally where did you gather your knowledge about using the gtx-260m in place of the 9800m gs? thank you again

Yes, you can swap out your 9800M gs for a gtx 260M, there were quite some g50vt users did that, it's an upgrade option if you fried your 9800M gs, normally I wouldn't suggest to upgrade to 260M if your 9800M gs still works because the performance gain isn't exactly significant, but since yours is broken, 260M is the better route to go.

About installation of 260M, it's just plug and play, it's just that simple, both 260M in g51 and 9800M gs in g50 use the exactly same heatsink, so you don't even need another heatsink. And get a g51 fan if you can, I have heard it's better than the fan in g50. The thing you need to take care of is how to cool the gtx 260M down, it runs quite hot thus need some extra cooling solutions, eg, undervolting CPU(leads to cooler running GPU too because they share the same fan), backpanel drilling mod(drilling holes on the backpanel in the GPU/fan area to allow better air flow), an effective laptop cooler, all these can help to make the 260M work within reasonable temp.

And make sure you get the 260M from G51 on ebay, NOT those in G71 because 260M in g71 is physically different, contact the seller to confirm it if you are unsure.
