    Hi, dont know much about gaming laptops so excuse the questions if its a simple question :)
    Can you please tell me the difference between 9800m gtx 2gb and a 8800m gtx 1gb for a xps M1730.

    Besides the different memory size, the 9800m gtx has 112 shaders vs. 96 on the 8800m gtx.

    Hi, thanks for that. If you could explain what that mean lol please.
    Also the laptop will have a T9300 with 6mb catch cpu with 4gb ram.
    Its for my sons birthday and am trying to find out as much info about gaming laptops as i can
    :)

    Those are quite old cards (from 2007 and 2008 respectively) and old CPU. Are you looking for a used laptop or new?

    old does not make it bad, a 8800m GTX og a 9800m GTX could still run new games on good settings. Like i could run BF:BC2 on all high settings on my 8800m GTX
    until new consoles come out games wont be more demanding

    A 9800m GTX SLI setup would be like a single 470m at best, and that's on games that work well with SLI.

    Depending on the resolution, the 9800m GTX is already showing its age bad. I could only run BFBC2 on medium settings 1080res to keep good framerate. Borderlands as well and many others.

    If the resolution is low, sure they can still play fine but when you have laptops with HD6770m/HD7690m etc and affordable prices, it doesn't make sense to buy old and used.
