I just bought a GT72 with a 980m. I was looking at HTWingNut's review and I noticed there are different suppliers for the GDDR5. I was wondering if there was any differences in the overclocking ability between them. Mine is on the right.

Hynix vRAM is generally considered top notch as far as overclocking stability is concerned. I'd love a card with Hynix vRAM.

why is the pixel fill rate different?

Mine is Samsung as well (and also pixel fill rate is the same with OP)

So weird that MSI use VRAM from different manufacturers with the same GPU.
Could be detection error from GPU-Z -
My G751 is reporting Micron ram. Granted this maybe down to the fact its a 4GB design but still it overclocks well, I can get around +450 out of it.

p35x v3 cf4, might return though, but so far (2 weeks) so good.

Nah, don't like the form factor, it has just as many facets as an F117 + 45% thicker (and somewhat heavier). Pretty happy with the laptop so far. Sager has something to design laptops that don't look attractive for some reason (I know it has better cooling design, but appeal is just as important to me, reason I own AW and Razer
)
EDIT: Not to say it is bad guys, sorry if I sounded like that, I mean it is sort of a personal preference that I don't like faceted laptops, instead I like smooth surfaces more. The main reason I didn't go p650sg is the thickness, if I am good for that thickness, I would wait for AW 17's new iteration.

It is 29mm ( è—天Clevo, 38% to be exact, I didn't calculate it before, just thought it was 30mm). I am not saying its bad or anything, people have different likes and dislikes, but come on, you reviewed it and saw it yourself, you are saying it doesn't have weird edges? AW 17 is pretty much like a box btw. Anyway no need to argue, likes and dislikes.

It's really about 27-28mm, but it's splitting hairs (literally).
It does have facets, but AW has facets too. I wasn't arguing, just that AW has facets on the lid and rear edge very similar to how it is on the Clevo is all. There is really not a lot of difference between the Gigabyte and P650SG is all I'm saying. I've seen/used the P35X v3 and it is a nice laptop overall. Laptop styling is up to the buyer of course.maxheap likes this. -
I have the unpopular opinion that form should follow function. I would not get a better looking item (especially if it costs more) that performs worse to the alternative (especially in aspects which would be important to me; like cooling). I mean, prior to the 900M launch rendering AW a fighting battle to get only mostly-working 900M series in them, they offered good sound, the best cooling and fantastic features (like card flashing etc) as well as backward and forward compatibility that others did not have. They were too expensive for me (and too much steal bait for my country), so I never got them. But bet your bottom dollar I was looking at one of the early gen M17x models with dual-GPU support back when I opted for the D900F. I just at the time couldn't justify its cost and the fact that I could only get two 3870 GPUs in it (no nVidia choices at the time; and I didn't know about upgrading back then).
I'm not saying that buying for looks is bad. I understand entirely if you want something to look like the most boss beech this side of japan, but for the reasons listed above, something like a Razer Blade is out. Its form is not enough to justify its HUGE lack of function (one mSATA slot, 512GB storage maximum? My GAMES DRIVE is 512GB and almost full... hell no. And no optical drive I could remove for a HDD caddy? HA).
At least in the case of AW, with the looks came the benefits. MSI was a decent alternative with looks too, before the 880M series that couldn't be cooled at all. Now the 900M is cool enough for all of their stuff XD.
I think I went on a tangent.
TL;DR: Don't sacrifice tons of functionality for looks kids. It's not what the cool kids do. *hipsters out*HTWingNut, triturbo, TBoneSan and 1 other person like this. -

From my own testing the hynix over clocks better and reacts better to voltage even though it's rated for 1250mhz vs the 1500mhz Samsung.
Msi and asus manufacturer their own PCBs (they produce motherboards and GPUs) while clevo use the same company as their motherboards I believe. -
Even if it had the best cooling and performance over everything, but beyond that, looks are subjective and irrelevant to performance and cooling. All things being equal, sure, pick your styling. Although I find these more "stylish" laptops cost a pretty premium over a comparable laptop like a Clevo. In any case, to each their own. It's good that we have choice. -
There might be some over clocking mine has 3.7giggahertz

Is getting the Hynix just a luck of the draw?

My Asus uses Samsung VRAM..

Nothing wrong with Samsung vRAM... It's still much better then the vRAM brand which starts with E..
