Few questions, i heard about the 9900m GTX recently and i was wondering if there is a realistic release for this at all or if its all spec atm and what kind of power this card is sposed to have compared to 9800m GTX and 8800m GTX since ive heard things as ambitious as its the 280 for notebooks..., and i was wondering what kind of performance the 9800 GTX sli will have over an 8800m GTX SLI? if dell would find a way to undervolt that thing and stick it in an m1730 i would buy it, or maybe increase cooling somehow...but heat would be an issue for putting it in an m1730.

Have heard nothing of a 9900M GTX, but a 55nm varient of the 9800M GTX is just around the corner.
9800M GTX SLi sees around 1k+ higher results in 3DMark 06 when compared to 8800M GTX. If running at 1920x1200, you'll see the best difference with the extra 1GB found on the 98mGTX.
9900M GTX is doable, as the G92 core is native at 128 SPUs, while the 98mGTX uses 112 and the 88mGTX uses 96. And with 55nm here and no technology to stick a 200GTX core into a mobile platform, I think we may even see 9850, 9900, and 9950GTX revisions until 40nm hits sometime 2009 and nVidia can squeeze the beheamoth 200GTX core into a mobile platform. -
9900M GTX? never heard of it

never heard of the 9900mGTX, but nvidia is going to release a new graphics card any time now.

It could very well just be the FX 3700M if it ever comes out as the 9900M GTX, since the FX 3700M has 128 shaders.

Good info guys, thanks. Heard about the 128 streams but i know that ppl were blowing smoke with their 9900 compared to 280 claims....its annoying to see my 8800's i got in july almost rdy to be out-dated but hopefully dell finds a way to stick them into m1730's.

Yep, the Quadro 3700 gets 11000 in 3dmark06, above the 9800GTX

Actually I don´t think Dell will allow another upgrade to our XPS M1730´s. If I know them right they want to sell laptops, thereby there will probably be a new XPS M17xx including a Quad Core CPU and new GPU´s. So I think basically we are stuck with 8800m GTX which by the way performs like crazy. I am not worried.
It´s the same I have kept my desktop 8800GTX which I bought for a long time ago it still peforms really good and all those new GPU´s that came out didn´t not crush the 8800GTX at all, in fact they even loose in higher res unless they are just clocked really really high. Except the newest Nvidia GPU´s GTX 260 and GTX 280 and ATI´s 4850/4870. So the 8800GTX desktop still has hold it´s own for a very long time.
Just as an example.
There is no need to get a new GPU until you have a GPU that performs 2-3x the current one you have. This is why I still stick to my desktop 8800GTX since the newer GTX 280 and GTX 260, not even 4870 I am really amazed of at all. Next line GPU´s that is where I will upgrade.
Same with the laptop it will last me for a long time until I need to upgrade again also now considering I have SLI in it. -
Nope, Dell is leaving the Quad goodness to their flagship workstation, the Precision M6400.
9900m GTX and 9800m GTX oh my!
