A NBR Team Fortress 2 Server.....

I personally can't wait for the Engineer update (whenever it comes...).

 

Ha, yeah I feel you when playing Engineer and spies run up willy nilly to your sentry and sap it and your teammates don't do anything. I really hate spies.

 

Yea, that's super frustrating. All it takes is a simple spy check from a pyro every 30 sec or so to make sure everything is clear. Oh well...

 

How do yall go about doing a "spy check?"

 

As a pyro, whenever I run by friendly buildings (dispensers, turrets, teleporters) I spray a quick blast of fire around them to make sure there are no spys around. If there are, they get lit on fire

You can also fire a quick burst from the heavy minigun and see if blood flies around

Yeah, you'd think with all the pyros playing for achievements they would be eager to hunt down some spies. I personally cannot wait for the engineer unlocks because that is my favorite class.

 

Sniper with all these heavies is amazing

I got over 6000 damage in one life today as a sniper

 

Oh, i was just wondering how yall go about doing it. I do similar things, the occassional shot at a guy if he looks suspicious and a random flame around equipment.

 

Another important thing about spies is to look for suspicious activity, a few simple things to remember about disguised spies are:

-They will always be shown wielding the classes default primary weapon. Remember the spies default weapon is the pistol and the medics is the syringe gun.

-They collide with you, unlike allies who you can walk though.

-They cannot shoot

-They show a random amount of health between 50% and 100%

-If you are a medic and shoot them with the health stealing gun, you get the +3's

-If they disguise as a spy, they won't be shown wearing a mask.

Know these not only for spy checking, but to show you are not a spy, a simple weapon swap or firing a shot proves you are not a spy if a teammate is spy checking and fires at you. You should ALWAYS do this to show you are not a spy when running towards an engineers sentry and dispenser.

Most of the achievements and unlocks are pretty easy to get. And the server has 24 players in it now so I'm sure it wouldn't be much more than 1 hour of playing before you get both the new Sandvich and natasha minigun. KGB might take a little while longer though.

There's a new map rotation that I've set up however. I would personally like to see the server be one of the best in the world, so I've set the map rotation to keep players having fun.

New rotation is : cp_dustbowl, pl_badwater (new), pl_goldrush, cp_steel (new), cp_badlands, and ctf_2fort.

Other maps are free to be changed by the admins, (forerunner, Jace, myself, and sasquach) If anyone else plays the server alot and feels they deserve admin, or would like to keep the server in check while no one else is on, feel free to speak up.

the new Arena maps are not in the rotation for obvious reasons, not many people from NBR like them, and atleast half the players in the server will leave when the map is changed to an arena map. However, as I said before, the map can be changed to arena by any of the admins.

One last thing, I think the NBR Logo's that I put up were actually making people interested in this website, if there's anyone who just came to NBR from seeing an ad in the server, Hi!

 

I wanted to join earlier, but the server was full. I guess it's a good sign that it's pretty popular.

 

oh, and to add to what I said above.. the server now runs 100tick, 1000fps. I decided to do this after the recent update about 2 hours ago, so everyone's latency might be a few milliseconds lower, don't expect too much though. I still can't find out the cause of those 2 second long lag spikes that happen once every 30-60 minutes though, it's not much of a problem, and doesn't affect anyone playing since it's so insignificant, but I would still like to know why it's happening..

Many of you NBR people are struggling to get in cuz the server is full a lot of the time. Most of you NBR people are always friends with me or unkn.

So, if you wana get in, and it's full, tell me or unkn if we're playing, and we'll kick someone to make space for you. NBR people have priority.

I've never played this, how does it work and where can I test my ISP connection to know if I could be a server for it?

 

Go to the front page, the ips are there. Basically, NBR now has a TF2 server for us to play on as a forum. Get that ip and just do a simple ping test.

Unknown who posted a few posts above you hosts the server. He might not have forwarded his port enough so you cna't ping it. I duno, but your connection should be fine.

The simple solution is go to the front page of this thread, and i've made a compliation of all the people who play TF2 with their steam names. A lot more simple than adding freaking everybody to find out only 50 have tf2

I just got the game, I don't ever play fps online, but I though I should check this out. I'm a little confused about picking a server though, does it really matter which one I pick, or any random one with a low ping will do?

There are so many TF2 servers, it doesn't matter if this one is down. It was fun playing with people from NBR though.

yeah, just like any other game there are different rules on each server (such as fast respawn, extra players, normal, etc.). Just sort through the ones you have a nice ping to for one you find fun.

 

I personally think that servers that run custom mods, and modify certain settings can make the game unbalanced and boring. Yea, some servers are great, but most are just terrible, unbalanced settings, and/or admins who make the game no fun.

I loved running the NBR TF2 server, it was all default, ran great most of the time, and was popular for a while. Until summer was over, people had less time to play, and it died down, so I saw no more point to run it, and sold the PC I was using to run this server to yoyo1299 on here..

There's alot of servers out there, and alot of clans, it won't be hard to find one if your seriously into TF2. Also, IMO, you should be recruited from within the game, and based on skill/cooperation, not what you write down on thier forum site, and any clan that has over 40 members is merely in it for profitability, but if you have fun, then all the best eh?

 

I never really got into the whole clan thing, dont see much point to it. Id rather be the mvp with two clan members below me and when they brag about being the best then i can shut them down

 

I've actually found that most servers don't change a lot of settings (other than respawn time). You can also filter servers to find ones that do/don't require downloads or mods.
