Hey guys im looking for a great MMORPG that will offer me lots of fun for a while.
Im getting bored of FPS' and im willing to dive back into the fantasy world of MMORPG's.
Any tips on great games i can buy/download? I dont mind monthly fee's so long as the game is great.
What i have already tried are:
Guild Wars
World of Warcraft
Perfect World
Runes of Magic
Flyff
I heard that the best MMORPG's are the ones that you have to pay monthly for.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

not really. I have been playing ROSE online and i love that game. Try it out at
www.roseonlinegame.com -
Runescape
Have you tried Mabinogi? -
Lord of the Rings Online > WoW
EVE Online > any MMO -
oh boy...not runescape please no!
Ive tried it and got bored out of my mind after i passed tutorial island.
As for the other suggestions : I've played ROSE online while it was still free and loved it alot however that was a couple years back...ive grown to start hating cartoon/cute MMO's
Im not a big fan of Lord of the Rings so i dont know if ill like the game that much
EVE online seems cool yet i would like a character based game.
I've looked into Age of Conan and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.
Should they be worth my money? -
Give Zero Online, Conquer Online, and Eudemons Online a try. Trickster Online is also quite fun. All are free.
-
I never got into the Warhammer universe of games so the MMO does not appeal to me. However from all the gaming-related podcasts I listen to the general concensus is Warhammer isn't that good. I guess servers are being dropped now. -
what about lineage 2? It was cool when I used to play but that was like 2 years ago
-
I have tried them all and personally for my taste wow was fun for a couple years, aoc rocked like the above poster said (i got 2 to 49 and quit out of boredom), WAR is fun for a week or two but the pvp gets boring. I dont know if you are like me but I want a game that is appealing graphically as well as fun. I am now playing EQ2 which has been a blast for me and the graphics rock. PM me if you want, I am on permafrost and my char is named Enoj.
-
I'll throw in a recommendation for Lord of the Rings Online. To date, that's the only MMORPG that I would ever consider paying a monthly fee to play.
-
I couldn't get in to the LOTRO, I tried as hard as I could because I enjoy the lore but overall it just felt really boring to me.
-
While I agree whole-heartly that Eve is an unique and awesome MMO, it's certainly not really the casual fun game that the OT is looking for XD
-
Check out 2Moons... the Dead Front battles are some of the funnest I've ever seen in an MMO.

My vote is still with Guild Wars ha. It kills tons of time for me and I find it fun
-
World of Warcraft is the king of time wasters, erm I mean MMOs.
Very easy to get hooked on and can steal time like no other. However in my humble opinion I wouldn't touch this unless I was in prison, or had a LOT of time to waste and had no other choices. A walk in the park, or a ride on a bike, or meeting a cute girl beats throwing 30 hrs into WOW each week and becoming a no lifer like many who play it (I was hooked on it for 1.5 years, it killed my social life) ..
So yeah WoW is a LOT of fun -
im leaning a lot to Lord of the Rings Online. However the 40$ time card is making me back away
-
i just started perfect world about 3-4 weeks ago. i'm almost lvl 49 now and it's gettin pretty cool. i got my first legendary weapon and am startin to get into the more advance stuff.
how did u like perfect world and what lvl did u get to? -

Been there done that. No way I can play WoW with a full time job, wife & kids.
However if your single and you do not mind having no real social life its a good way to keep you entertained and save money. $15 a month is a lot cheaper than dating or hanging out, and keeps you out of trouble.
I find that playing on a private server is good, the mods allow it to be much more casual. No hours of time needed to setup for and ruin a dungeon, your gear is powerfull enough to find a PUG easy, or just go random PVPing. -
check out lineage 2 or AION.
-
I used to play Runescape quite a bit. Was pretty harcore about it (quit at lv123 and that was when my clan Damage Inc was #1). This was before WoW really caught on lol. But right now I'd rather play Ragnorak than Runescape. They seem to have improved the interface a bit but Runescape's graphics is still mah at best and the combat system still sucks.
I did sell my account + gold for a crapload of $$$$ though.Paid for a lot of toys.
Only semi-rpg I play right now is DOTA, a War3 map/mode. I was mostly into PVP in MMOs and DOTA is pure PVG and you get from lv1 to 25(max) in like 1-2 hours lol. -
maplestory
kiddy look but its still pretty fun.. -
Try Everquest here at
www.projecteq.net
The setup is semi tough just because it's hard to find a hardcopy of Everquest Titanium for sale, not sure if Ebay sells it, but it's about 10 bucks.
From the Projecteq then on, you'll find more custom servers that may just suit your taste. I wasted 3 of my most precious years of life there. you EQ! -
Free to boot! And fun. My baby sister got me hooked onto this game for a while there.. you MapleStory! -
Lineage 2... I keep coming back to that game for the people.
Some you love to hate, others have become RL friends who I visit on vacation.
No other game has made me so many real friends and so many "war stories" to tell. I think its because the game is difficult and people band together for it.
"Whoops I clicked on something and I'm max level" games like WoW just don't have that effect for me.
Besides some people just need to die... repeatedly... -
I know people on these forums tend to not like Warhammer Online, but i still think its great! PVP games are the way to go. It's no challenge to learn how to kill PVE enemies but PVP is ever changing. Players change strategies, and react to your actions far better than any AI. I'm not sure if being with "Feared" (the number one guild in the game) from practically the game's launch has anything to do with it. But it's kinda hard to get tired of it with so many Destro to kill!!!
-
Try Aion. It's made by the creators of Guildwars. -
I wouldn't recommend WoW to my worst enemy or quite frankly anyone mentally over the age of 12.
It has nothing to do with the game... its the community.
L2, Warhammer, Conan, and any of the free ones would be infinitely better. -
Too bad there is no Warhammer 40K online. -
I played wow for about a year and a half. it was fun but the casual play gets old later in the game. then its all about raids and if you cant sacrafice serious time like several hours its not worth the time.
It was like that when I played everquest also. long long raids and corpse recoverys. I think they changed some stuff with expansions and eq 2 but its still long raids.
Dark age of Camelot was a fun game until they drove it right into the ground and completely wrecked it.
any mmorpg with pvp is better in my opinion. then if you dont feel like raiding for 4 hours and only have say a half hour to kill you can log in and compete with some people.
so whatever you pick try and pick one with pvp. its hard to get into but once you get into it and get used to it you never go back. -
also does anyone know any good free to play games? ive played runescape and maplestory and currently 4story but there all boring.
-
Cant beleive no one mentioned knight online

from what i have heard...AoC is alot better now and many people are coming back to the game
-
I highly recommend Lineage 2. If you go on alternate servers, you dont even need to pay!
-
i play perfect world international now, and i'm pretty content for now. the cash shop items are actually worth buyin, unlike maplestory. there are active GM's on all the time. i played maplestory for about 2 years and i was never able to talk to or see a GM. i spent tons of money on this game too. i saw, and talk to different GM's in perfect world within just weeks of bein there. -
Ultima Online was my favorite... but again, that was over 10 years ago.
-
i'm still waitin for a MMO that can even come close to UO. -
Get Warcraft III/ Frozen Throne expansion and download the free custom map mod called DotA. It's a RTS but highly addicting, I never get bored if it.
-
-
Try trickster online or perfect world ;D
-
lol i've tried the Lord Of The Rings Online trial and hated it.
Warhammer , different story.
Spent round 4 hours at a time playing the game. It is so darn addictive! From the start of the game you are literally plunged into a world of RVR and the community isnt as dead as i thought it would be!
Its so fun and the PVP is so intense and fulfilling i cant wait till i would accually pick up the real game.
Then again the monthly fee has me questioning -
Well I am playing Guild Wars atm... honestly I have exhausted all the Pve content and done a fair bit of the PvP. tbh the only reason I stick around now is because I found a great guild with a lot peeps that are just fun to play with. I think that will be the trick to finding an online game that you really enjoy. You need a great community to have a great game.
The truth is most games ultimately do the same thing have the same formated quests, that end up with you killing something or fetching something. Sure they might have different story lines and slightly different game mechanics... but they are all pretty much the same.
I have been on the design teams for just about every major MMos out there atm and quite a few big title non online games. I have largely concluded that while high quality content is desirable, the thing that makes a game great is the people who play it. I have found a great little nich in GW (honestly I don't think the GW community is that great in general). So thats my advice try and find a game that has a good community or find a game that you can start with some friends or that some friends are already playing... you will have a tun more fun doing that and I would be willing to bet that it will take a lot longer to get bored of the game. -
It comes down to how much value you place on your free time. You stated earlier that you don't mind paying a monthly fee, so if you log in regularly, I don't see how the price can be prohibitive (how long does it take you, personally, to earn $40?). Also consider longer-term subscriptions drop your price per month.
I recommend checking out www.mmorpg.com to get info on what all else is out there. -
... Can I borrow $40?? -
Have you heard of Darkfall online? Great game (like the original Ultima Online but way better graphics), but they're having issues right now with overpopulation and they're working to bring up more servers...
-
been playing warhammer for a few months now! its a real fun game i love rvr. and if u do ul love rvr. esp in t4 orvr is pretty intense! if anyone decided to aply it let me know il send u an invite hahah xD(gets free time if u pay atleast a month after trial) lol xD

It really depends on what you want to do.
WoW is very single player minded and with the split to normal/heroic raids (10/25), you won't have to invest AS much time. It does have PvP (lol) but outside of Arenas it is basically a FFA grind for gear. I used to lead a big guild back in 05 but raiding can burn you out if you're not hardcore and have a real life so I ended up just going uber casual. Play a healer, and you will be in demand 24/7/365 and have guilds begging you to join, but if you join a raiding guild, welcome to the guilt trips as you will not only be pressed to raid but asked all the time to, "zomg plz heals0r this instance for us....plz" for not only guild members but random private tells.
Play a Hunter and get ready to beg for groups and basically have to prove yourself as being competent as the term, "Huntard," is common in WoW and very accurate as Hunters/Rogues seem to attract the worst players (Death Knights are quickly climbing in that rank though I noticed). I leveled a Priest/Druid and was so used to groups and never wanting that when I leveled a Hunter (mainly to farm for gold), it was shocking how long you sit in queues or see 1 priest, 1 tank, 10 million fury warriors and 20 million Hunters and Rogues in queue.
Original WoW was great. The Burning Crusade Xpac wasn't very good imho (and Thorin'Dal Twin Blades being random drops was disgusting versus truly crafting a real legendary weapon like Thunderfury or Rag's legendary hammer along with Atiesh). The new Xpac is a thing of beauty so far. Luckily, Blizzard really nerfed the leveling grind so 1-70, if you want, you can solo and it only requires a fraction of the XP it used to.
If you like FFA PvP, farming as a past time and occasional PUG 5 mans with the rare dip into 10 man action, WoW is a decent game.
EQII has made great strides to become WoW like (but WoW bit off of EQII for achievements) and reduce the need for groups for leveling and their idea of rested XP is insane compared to WoW. I stopped around level 40 with my Priest as it started to feel like WoW but with a much stiffer, less fluid interface. You do the same things (farm ores/herbs/woods) and sell them on the brokerage house (with different rates depending on location in regards to commisions) or you can actually go to the sellers house if he is equipped with one and buy it directly from a display case which I thought was wicked. Their crafting system is much more indepth than WoW and the community is about 100x more mature. Xpacs are ~6months apart and pumped up, the graphics are more realistic than WoW.
If you want a smaller, but more mature community, a much more indepth crafting system, a universal farming ability and better graphics in spots but longer raids and very poor PvP (even compared to WoW), EQII is for you. -
I second the motion for Darkfall, especially if you like UO. But its main failing is its account registry system and seemingly random overpopulation
-
What about Star Wars Galaxies? on this website ( www.swgemu.com) they're bringing back the Pre-CU of SWG that IMHO had one of the best gameplay i've ever tried. There is already a test server online, surely is not like playing on an official game server (and probably not even comparable to "stable" emulated server) but i've tried personally and it rocks
