Hi guys,
Since many of you discuss CoD here, I was wondering if you know of a similar game called Combat Arms. Here are links for the main US page, EU page and Korean page.
The game is totally free. However, the only permanent weapon you have is the M16. To use other weapons you need not only promotions (which you get through playing) but also points which you also get from playing. The weapons you get this way last for some days, after which they expire and you get only the M16 again (which does its job just fine I might add).
There are the typical game modes (single and team deathmatch, team survivor, capture the flag). Also, you have Quarantine mode which pits humans against zombies (zombies are human-controlled). Zombies have 6 times as much life as humans but only attack in melee, and infect humans when they hit them.
There is also a coop mode which sadly only has one map so far. There are more maps coming![]()
The catch is that the very best weapons, and other permanent weapons, can only be obtained with real world money. So far I've been having a blast using only the M16 and a scope (bought with the in-game points).
All in all, I think this is a great game which is perfectly enjoyable without spending one cent. Give it a shot!![]()

You actually gave the Korean site, here's the US one:

Fixed now. -
No prob.
Anyway, I never actually heard of it. I'm giving it a download now.
Edit: Are there a lot of hackers? -
Of course, there have been plenty of accusations, but as far as I know the accused players were just skillful. -
I played CA when it was in Beta and for a bit after it was officially released two years or so ago. My main problem with it is that because I do not game regularly, I would always lose a lot of money keeping up the rent on my Mk48, and the M16 is so underpowered that it's difficult to get kills without getting an abysmally low K/D ratio.
Right now, I'm playing a similar game, Operation 7 - in that game, you buy permanent weapons, but you have to repair them after matches. The Combat Arms maps are much better than the Op7 maps, though. -
I'm not competitive though, and I have a great time playing this even though, as you say, my K/D ratio is kind of weak. But it would be weak in any FPS, I'm not a good player anyway. -
Yeah, good FPS if you just want to run and gun and not get all serious in a game of CS:S, BF2, TF2, or whatever.

Looks like a decent F2P game, and i included some reviews of this and other F2P games.
Combat Arms (Nexon version)
K.O.S. Secret Operations (Uses Source Engine!)
Alliance of Valiant Arms (A CoD4 clone that uses Unreal 3 engine)
Quake Live
America's Army (Uses Unreal 3 engine)

Battlefield Heroes is alot of fun, though still feels lacking compared to BF2. I wish it would've been 1st person, but I guess the parental units would be more upset about it.
I'm downloading Combat Arms right now. Gonna check it out. -
I used to play combat arms a few months ago, I really liked it back then. Three months ago, I tried to play it again, but it seemed like every game I joined was composed of 1 or more hackers (they could kill every enemy in the map without moving).
-
Perhaps European servers are more hacker-free than American/Korean servers? -
I played on european servers. Perhaps I was just unlucky or they introduced better protection against hackers now.
-
CA was pretty awful the last time I tried it a couple months ago.

Free FPS's never really cut it for me.

I've played Urban Terror since it was released as a mod for Quake 3. It's no longer a mod but a stand alone game and it's free with no promotions, ads, etc. Very, very addictive in CTF mode.

I used to play it religiously until recently.
It has been plagued by hackers since day one and it still is. (most of them you can't catch though because they use less obvious hacks such as chams and no recoil. And since Nexon only bans hackers if they have solid evidence such as a screen shot of them flying or OPK'ing they usually never get banned)
But whatever. If any one creates an NBR clan I'll join. -
i like operation 7

Quake Live .
So simple, so smart, runs in the browser (also goes full screen), no ridiculous signup and advertisers to deal with (BF: Heroes, others). -
Battlefield: Heroes was a joke. Any game where my sniper rifle cant kill in one hit is garbage
-
I wish these microtransaction games had an option where you could pay a dollar or two and get access to all the unlocks for like 3 hours. So I could just play it once a week or something real casual like that, they'd still get some money out of me, but I wouldn't have to worry about paying for a bunch of unlocks that last a week or a month or something and then not playing enough to get my moneys worth.
P.S. Snipers can kill in one hit real good in BF:Heroes if you levelup enough to max out the rifle damage skill and get headshots. Too bad BF:Heroes changed their system so now you pretty much have to put money in to not suck. -
Went to try BF: Heroes again and the pokemon-like intro movie on the home page completely put me off
-
tried combat arms last year... overall its great but the only downfall is the players in the game
-
I don't like this game, because it is SO hard to earn money. You have to every day to keep your weapon updated. It's a bad copy of Counter Strike.

I tried this the other day as practice on learning to play a fps online, but IMHO this game sucks, they were just cheating someone would just keep knifing in one spot and would kill the whole team, then in another match I would get knifed or sniped by someone not even close to me it was a waste of my time downloading it.
A great free online FPS: Combat Arms
