Here is a small guide i put together fairly quickly to just improve NBR's overall performance ingame.

    PART 1

    Essentials and Commands

Sound:This is the most crucial part in Counter Strike. A good headset and an updated sound card play a big role in your experience. This factor can help determine the position of nearby enemies 90% if not 100% of the time (depending on the audio quality). Communication is always key to success.

Mice:: Also very important but not as significant as the role sound plays. Read about the Gaming Mice sticky in the accessories forum to find the right mouse for you!

    SETTING UP YOUR CONFIGURATION

Now a lot of you might be using default settings but i would love if you guys could explore a few different settings and commands that have to do with the CONSOLE (~) ingame.

cl_crosshairscale: This determines how big and how small your crosshair will be ingame. The lower you get, the bigger your crosshair will be. The higher you get (somewhere along the 1000's), you will notice a smaller crosshair. THIS DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR ACCURACY. It is personal preference! Some people can just AIM better with a smaller crosshair, it is up to you!

    cl_dynamiccrosshair:
: Pretty much self explanatory. This makes your crosshair stay in the same position when moving, or crouching. However! The crosshair only moves when you start shooting the gun (recoil).

    zoom_sensitivity_ratio:
This is for the hardcore awpers. You might want to tweak this setting up a bit. Now, by default it is set to "1". And that means that when zoomed (or scoped), your sensitivity remains the same as your original sensitivity.

example: say my sensitivity is 1.0 and my zoom sensitivity is 2.0
The ratio will be 2:1 , therefore when zoomed in, you will 2x sensitivity.

    REGISTRY/ LAG fix

To take the usual "OMG MAN LAG / NO REGISTRY" excuse out of the book, let me show you how to actually FIX that accursed lag and make your Counter Strike experience more enjoyable!

    net_graph 30
: Use this to see your ping/fps/choke/loss etc.
You can also see the tickrate of the server meaning how "good" it is. 33 is the worst, 100 is the best.

    cl_cmdrate, cl_updaterate
Depending if you are playing on a 33 / 66 / 100 tick server, you need to update your cmdrate and updaterate in console. To do so, enter command like this according to the tick rate of the server "cl_cmdrate 100" and "cl_updaterate 100".

    cl_smooth 0

    cl_interp 0

    cl_smoothtime 0

Type this in console also: rate 25000

To be honest, i have no idea what that does, but it fixes choke (which is a bad thing...very bad) and loss of information.

    HARDWARE

Now that you guys learned about setting up your configuration, im going to talk a bit about your computer and hardware.

Resolution: Make sure that you are comfortable with this setting and that you can see clearly (not too blurry)

Anti-Aliasing / AF: These arent quite necessary and can really put a burden on your hardware especially if you have a weak machine.

High Dynamic Range Lighting: Really, i find it very un-useful and it eats up a few fps, i recomend turning it to "None".

Vertical Sync: members have taught me that this setting is very useful! Although it caps your FPS to 60 ( ithink) but it prevents Horizontal tearing and other bad things that may occur. (that i do not know of )

    All the other settings
: SHOULD be kept to High for best playing experience.

    PART TWO! YAY!

    GAMEPLAY!

Here is where MOST noobs fail and where they CANNOT RECOVER. Let me try to be YOUR remedy to the problem!

    Pistols:

The Deagle (Nighthawk): This pistol has 7 bullets. I dont know what comes across most peoples mind but they tend to "spray" with the deagle. That action is most idiotic and will not get you a kill. Using the deagle should be by using 1 shot at a time consistently to preserve accuracy and control.
Perfection of this method will be satisfying when all your kills will be "1 deags".

USP/Glock: These guns are what the "pros" use if they run out of cash to buy a deagle or want to save money. They do have "spray and pray" potential but its nice to aim at the head. Why am i saying this? because unlike the deagle, these 2 weak sidearms take around 3~4 shots to the head to kill someone. 6 shots in the body would cause around 70 dmg. By then, you will be dead.

    Riffles:

AK47: This gun is a powerhouse. Literally. It is much stronger than the M4A1 on CT side and it can be used to spray with. However, its recoil is harder to control than the M4. I will explain methods of shooting with these riffles in a bit.

    M4A1
: A more accurate but weaker gun. Have you ever done 86 dmg in 1 hit? That is considered a "dink" where you hit the person in the head and he does not die! Anooying huh? Well that happens with the silencer on or off. Without the silencer, you will produce 90 dmg in 1 hit (still not there). Which is why the AK prevails over this gun in many ways.

How to shoot a riffle! (OMG FINALLY!)

Heres the correct method to execute the following 3 methods of shooting with a riffle.

BURSTING: In this method, you are shooting 2~3 bullets at a time. With your mouse, try holding down the FIRE button until you have fired 2~3 bullets. After that, let go of the mouse, wait 1/4 ~ 1/2 a second and do it again. If you did it correctly, your recoil and accuracy should stay the same.

A more advanced method of bursting: Here i will show you the technique called "Strafe-stop".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4sxME9PjeQ

This is a perfect example. Learn from it, it will help you loads. Notice how this person is doing the technique? All his bullets are alligned and yet the accuracy is so precise. THIS TECHNIQUE WORKS FOR M4A1 AND AK47!

    Spraying
: Omg...the "noob" way of handling and shooting a gun. If not used correctly like most people, your bullets will fly on a random wall instead of your target. I will show you the CORRECT way to controil your recoil/spray while in combat.

When you start spraying, start pulling downwards slowly on your mouse. For AK47, pull downwards and towards the left. This will make sure that your recoil stays somewhere accurate. If you do not control your recoil like most people, your spray wont kill anything.

If you do not understand what i am talking about, then watch this video of San Francisco OPTX ClowN demonstrating the technique.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIMUiIlGr3g&feature=related

    Fast-Clicking
: This method is like the burst but MUCH MUCH harder and takes ALOT of practice to perfect. It is however SLIGHTLY more accurate. But that slightly is accually the difference between a head shot and a body shot. So be wise about your decision.

Fast clicking consists of the same essential elements of burst firing. Although, instead of holding down the fire key like i said, you have to click 2~3 times very fast to produce 2~3 individual bullets. Dont go crazy on your mouse though, this takes practice to perfect. Alot of pros use this method , but it is not for everyone.

THIS CONCLUDES THE LIGHTNING-GUIDE OF HOW TO PLAY COUNTER STRIKE SOURCE AND ITS ESSENTIALS. THANK YOU, HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Good job. When I started up playing CSS again a little while ago I had to turn HDR off... playing Dust and coming out into the sun, although a little realistic because of the sun glare, was really annoying and I had to turn it off, so I definitely agree with you there.

Nice video on strafe stopping, I actually didn't know to press the opposite direction for 0.5 seconds... I'm gonna have to try that!

Should be good for those who haven't played much albeit it's quite a aged game by today's standards.

I was more happy hearing GK on the video.

To clarify the 84dmg 'dink' of the M4 with a headshot, you get this because the person has body armor/helmet. If they don't have armor, a headshot with the M4 will do over 100dmg.

IIRC, the AK sprays up and to the right so you want to pull down and to the left for more accurate spraying. Just pulling down will still leave you missing to the right of your enemy.

Oh, and it's rifle, not riffle. :)

I just remembered something with Vsync. I don't know if CSS suffers from it, but with CS 1.6 having Vsync on can actually cause a bit of input lag. I tried playing 1.6 with it on at one point and the game almost felt 'mushy', which I found out to be a slight amount of input lag.

Tearing is easy to ignore, input lag is impossible to get past.
