Hey guys! As you may have seen in my other thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=129479) I'm looking for a good entertainment laptop. That said, I'd like to know at approximately what FPS the following laptops would be able to run quasi-modern games like F.E.A.R, Doom 3, Farcry etc...and could they run oblivion in lower settings?

    1.) Hp Pavillion dv9500t
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/4MB L2Cache)
    4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    511MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
    200GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (100GB x 2)

2.) Sager NP9260 (Haven't researched this one too much)
DUAL NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX PCI-e SLI Mode w/512MB (1,024MB Total)
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz Processor w/4M L2 Cache - 1,066MHz FSB
    2,048MB (2 SODIMMS) DDR2/800 Memory
    80GB SATA/150 Hard Drive at 7,200 RPM

3.) HP Pavillion HDX (Probobly not the best for gaming, but rather entertainment)
    Centrino (Core 2) Duo T7700 2.4GHz CPU
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB graphics (DirectX 10)
    4GB RAM
    400GB ( 4200RPM-OUCH!!) Hard Drive Dual HDD - 200GB x 2(SATA)

I'm mostly concerned about the first and third, due to direct X10 compatability. Anyways, thanks in advance for the help, and feel free to give suggestions in my other thread! You guys rock.

got it. well the ati hd 2600xt series is about equal to the nvidia 8600gt - so the 3rd laptop will no doubt be stronger than the crippled gs series from nvidia.

so the third laptop will be fastest, followed by the first, and im discounting the second for not having directx 10- although obviously it will be considerably faster- two 7950gtx's in sli.

the second laptop will have to be permanently plugged in. i dont think that is what you are looking for. the other two laptops could have 3+ hours of battery life. maybe 4+ depending on OS, usage, screen type.

you really want that 5400rpm hard drive if you can get it, minimum.

Cool! Do you think the dv9500t or HDX could run F.E.A.R, Farcry, etc. at a solid 25-30 FPS or better (ballpark)?

And thanks a lot for the help. I'm not to savvy when it comes to computers, admittedly :D

If you are looking at these I would also highly recommend looking at Asus. All of these are going to have terrible battery life with limited mobility. 1 is your best bet, however, from experience HP's look great but that about where it stops. There quality is for ****. Look at Asus, and if you want something that large and willing to spend that much money go with the sager. Are they MXM graphics cards anyone? They could be upgradeable in the future. Lastly two 7950 gtx's in SLI will blow everything out of the water. Even with directX 10 they will still perform well. Even with DirectX 8 aka TI4200 performed better than low end directX 9 Cards. This is a bot different... Like taking two 4200's together on steroids (if theyhad SLI bck then) vs a 9600 pro. This is just a made up comparison, however saying a 8600GT will perform better than 2 7950 GTX's in directX 10 is not comparing apples to apples. An 8800 is more in this class. Overall from what you are looking at and want to do go with the Sager.

Thanks for the reply. I figured that number 2 would probobly be best, performance wise. My only concern that it would be a gaming notebook rather than an entertainment/ school notebook (The other 2 will have HDDVD drives either standard or optional-which I plan to get). I'm using this as my college laptop, so I'll need an all-around package. I'm not saying the Sager isn't that package, I'm just not familiar with it really. Needless to say, I see a lot of research ahead of me.

Anyways, I'm buying this in August, so I'm thinking of waiting for the 8800M series to come out. I'm just not sure whether they're that much better than the 2600XT or 8600gt...or whether the framerates and graphics will increase proportional to the performance gap. Hopefully they'll be released by the end of July/early August...so I actually have time to get a laptop for my dorm.

Again, thanks for the input. I'll look more into the Sager to see if it would be good for school/entertainment purposes as well.

    I disagree.

I believe the order will go:

    2nd
    3rd
    1st

The sager has the faster processor which is higher clocked and is actually a desktop processor. It also has two videocards in SLI. Even one of these would still outperform the 2600XT and the 8600. Even though they lack DX10 support, they are the best performers for the games that the poster wants to play and are coupled with the best processor there.

even 1 7900gtx will outperform a 8600gt i think. using dx10 will not give you twice the much performance than normal. It will give you better performance (or better effects) but it wont be twice as fast as normal.
