I got the pricelist of this company, I thought I'd upload it. Some of the cards they offer are incredibly rare, some are Dell and other proprietary laptop brands. I think they are either the manufacturer or are in close partnership with them which makes this very interesting, at least to me.

Just looked at the ATI one for the first time. Apparently they can make MXM A up to 4870 1gb DDR3.

Those prices are really good. Of particular surprise is the price of the FX 3800m at 500$, half of what that card costs at sites such as Dell and Lenovo. If they come up with a 500$ GTX 480, buying from them would get very interesting.

yeah, the FX 3800 is a great price. Especially if your looking to max out an mxm 2.1 laptop. its 455 actually.
This list might be old. there website is os-trade.com if anyone would like to inquire.

the fx 5200 must be some strange renaming of another card... just like the fx 3800 is a gtx 285.
The 4870 mxm A I know, I'm really hoping this company isnt really lame and made a bunch of typos

    FX 3800 is already MXM 3.0, 2.1 max is 3700M or 280M.

Well.... thats what im saying.... none of us have ever heard of of a 4870 type A either, but the 3800 at least is based of the 280 core at least. So its very likely these people can make them.

I dont think they would just have THAT many typos considering the variety of cards they offer and the way they are specified. I think there is a new max MXM 2.1

Wait a minute...this is the same guy that's on eBay and keeps selling ES CPUs and GPUs by the trayload! (not to mention occasionally getting the specs on his MXM cards wrong)
My trust in his enterprise just dropped about 10 points.

Yeah, wow thats pretty odd... plenty of people get mxm card specs wrong.

I dont think its exactly the same person though. their MXM stuff is i think specified as coming from A-tech in Austria...
I think if one of them is a manufacturer its A-tech. they dont have a website anymore. They seem a lot more genuine and perhaps they are just partnered with the guy from Taiwan to make more sales...

I've found a lot of ODM type stuff from austria and germany as well. I'm going to try more of the emails... & try really hard to get a type A 4870 or mxm 2.1 fx 3800m

that's not new. I've already posted that seller. anyway it's good to see they upgraded the list. they now have 5870 listed. problem is, those cards won't work in every notebook even if they have the correct slot.
I've talked a lot with that company representatives and the conclusion is that they aren't making much more cards. also, support is non-existent. too bad for them. and for us. they could make loads of money.

you wished. I even tried to order +100 units. they just don't have the cards for sale.

Don't known why your trust dropped. I've made business with them and bought a QX3000 ES even before I discovered they sold mxm cards on alibaba.
all ok. cpu still works after +1year.
yes they post the specs wrong. people that are selling don't known much about mxm cards. but the cards work and are new that's what's important.

that's how I made my order

No. just because there is an MXM type A version doesn't mean all 5730 are MXM a. and the 285 and 5850 are mxm B anyway. so no, not gonna happen.

    Well, let's see, 500 units of what card? 5870M MXM 2.1 ?
There is also a problem with the copper casing of the card... plus in order to make it MXM 2.1 you would need a special vBIOS I presume.

For instance, flashing an MXM 3.0 BIOS on the 280M MXM 2.1, renders the card unusable.

Any ideas how we could work with that ? I am thinking that you need to end up with a price per card below 500 USD in order to make sure it will sell, this including your profit.

well that depend it may be specific to the 280 you flashed

in the case of alienware/dell thier 4850/4870 from 2.1 to 3.0 are exactly the same card and can be flshed one to the other

but ya definitly does need a specific bios

how ever in my case it would need a bios mod to get it to work to

problem is the ordered cards are going to be even more expensive. do realise when an ODM makes an order it's like 100.000 units. the cost per card is very low.
for them to manufacture a new card it's going to be costly. they'll need to build another assembly line etc. (if it's not just change some things on a similar card they are producing at that time).

but anyway, if anyone wants to try something I'm in. Problem is I only can afford 3 cards. so 497 left.
    it's not feasible.

what I think we should do is to try to order some costume built notebook with certain specifications. OEM's do that a lot. just like this: Synapse-Phones

we could also make some pressure towards some brands demanding a product with X features. we could commit to buy the product. if the list grows it's certain the product will appear sooner or later.

For now I was thinking more at some estimates... how much would cost to produce let's say a small batch , maybe only partially made on assembly lines and so on.

I mean, it's not just us who can benefit from it. I am sure if it's us here there are others out there who would be interested.

    @DAAMIT
    So any idea where I can get a Mobility 4850/4870 MXM 2.1 ? :D

Hum for the 4850 there is the comon 512mb version wich is quite comon and availible on ebay
As for the 1gb version it's quite rare and the only way to find it is to pray someone's m17 dies (on that got the card) and is dismanteled and the gpu get sold on ebay

I have an idea of where to get one.

It depends on if the old 2009 21" iMac with the 8800m GTS is MXM 3.0. It would be weird if it was.
If it isn't then there are 4850 cards (probably 4870 considering how apple has to market imacs as desktops) available for around 250$.

they don't provide samples. to have a sample they have to produce 1 unit. let's say 1 unit with development and assembly costs like $500000 + $50 for 1 card =$500050. 100 cards would be $505000.

Anyway I'm going to try to have some prices about a possible an AMD RADEON 6970 mobility MXM 2.1.

the area-51 9750 suport the 7950 and the 3870 (coling is insufisent for the 4850 so untested)

and the area-51 m17 suport the 3870 and 4850 the laptop does nt even boot with a nvidia card

    Seriously?

Firstly, do the dell MXM 2.1 4850 cards display on built in LCDs?
Secondly, where can I get that vbios? :D

If granyte is correct, then the dell ones should work...
...but don't buy it. It has to be MXM 3.0. Sorry I even posted that, I honestly am still hoping its 2.1 but I think there is less than 1% chance.

I don't think we need to make orders to the ODMs. I think we need someone very very good at PCB design. Think about it. You can buy BGAs for a lot of high end cards right now. The only thing we are missing is the actual PCB with its simple components.

If someone could actually design a board that accepts the 5870 and 6970 chips and get it into production by one of those PCB manufacturing companies then we'd be in business.
Just imagine choosing the exact VRAM you graphics card will have, forget that the 5870 is specified at 1000mhz and invest in some 1.6ghz ddr5 chips ;)

I've contacted the company several times. No way we can make this work. we would have to make a minimum order of 1000. it's not cheap.
"If someone could actually design a board that accepts the 5870 and 6970 chips"
well that's not a one men job. that requires many people with great knowingly from very different areas and loads of equipment and testing.
even if we had the design the problem would be the same. we would need to buy at least 1000 cards. sure it would drop costs a bit but it's expensive too.

the only way to make this work is to buy a large quantity. that is possible.

The best option would be for all of us to throw in for a professional BGA soldering machine.
Then we can all have a go at designing the PCB, sourcing 6970m compatible BGAs, and high quality gddr5 vRAM.

I for one am very interested in getting a BGA soldering machine and would invest a considerable amount in one with time to save up money.

Circuit boards can be manufactured cheaply, many companies have a 100$ start up cost.
I honestly think we know enough to do this if we wanted... If it takes somehow bypassing the MXM structure and turning it into a PCI-E slot (not mechanically of course). We do have access to MXM 2.1 spec.
