i usually run my laptop at home on AC power with the battery removed..
how long should i play games on it (like cod4/san andreas).. is playing for 1-2 hours ok?
the laptop gets pretty hot though.. especially near the back where the exhaust/fan is... is it bad to leave it on too long? even if its doing nothing, ie closed with no programs running. (i dont like sleep/hibernate never use it)
also how do i check the temp of the laptop and whats safe and whats not?

What laptop do you have?
Look here for Monitoring Notebook Temps.
You should be able to play as long as you want. As long as you haven't overclocked anything, the laptop should be designed to handle anything you throw at it. -
i have a: Asus F3SC

i dont know what overclocking is so no i dont think ive done that.
its just that it gets pretty warm (especially the adapter) which got me wondering.. -
Everything should be fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Laptops get warm, it can't be helped. If you look at the reviews that NBR does, such as this one, they almost always include external temperatures (in degrees F). You can see that often they look pretty high, but that's what the laptop was designed for.
So, feel free to game on -
sweet thanks for that link up there^
i downloaded NHC and my CPU temp is at 54 C, which according to that thread is normal -
You're welcome.
Yes, 54 C is quite normal and since you haven't overclocked your GPU, I'd expect your GPU temp to be around there also.
