    Hi !

I'm probably going to buy a new ACER laptop and I'd like to know how well can it run games such Oblivion, Bioshock... I'm not planning to spend all my time playing games with my lap though so no need to have all settings very high.

    Here are the specs :

    -AMD Turion 64 X2 TL58 (1,9 GHz)
    -2048 Mo
-nVidia GeForce 8600M GS 512 Mo dedicated/1280 Mo

    Thanks in advance

it can run them well on medium settings i guess, the GS is however a lot weaker than a GT.

Thanks for the quick answer. :)

I would also like to know how fast is a Turion X2 compared to an Athlon X2 ? If I'm not mistaken, Turion Processor was originaly made for Notebooks but is there any major difference between it and an Athlon X2 in terms of good performance ?

This spec is wrong , the Acer has NV8400M G not GS , HPs and Dells have the GS , Acer never puts it but put the MG one to confuse people.

OP's info on the spec is wrong seriously Acer never used the GPU but 8400M G , which is a much weaker GPU than the GS.

I don't get it. Not that I don't want to believe you but why wouldn't that be possible ? The Lap I'm looking forward to is an ACER Aspire 5520G-402G16Mi

Sorry to dissapoint you but it is definintely a 8400m G not GS, Someone just asked me to runa few tests with my specs because he is also buying(or bought) that laptop of yours.

Search the Hardware thread for my benchmarks.

No worries, the site where I found the specs probably made a mistake. ;)
How good is this card ?

    Don't play those 2 games

But Oblivion will probably run well since it is not really demanding.

FPS games I played with my LAptop right now are GRAW 2 , Timeshift and HAlo2
(GRAW 2 and Timeshift played it at 800x600 resolution at 30 FPS)
Also Hellgate London( Does not really require a powerful GPU so run in High settings)

    Folks,

Bioshock cooks my laptop's left base. Thats a very unique thing i found about this game. Crysis is fine on medium settings.
    So GS will be lesser.
