Only trying the 11.7s atm. Will see how they do over the next week or so providing I don't get any unexpected freezes.
Am only just getting around Witcher 2 which was meant to have crossfire issues so that'll be a good test; also the BF3 Alpha :)

This is probably the wrong place to ask this but I read somewhere that it might be possible to use regular drivers for a firepro card (m5950) since it is the exact same chip as the 6770m just using professional drivers, but would it take more than just clearing the old drivers and installing these? Sorry I really don't know much about this at all...

I seem to have run across a problem with 11.8 preview drivers, whenever I am playing Heroes of Newerth (HoN), I would alt-tab out of the game to check some updates while I'm waiting for my respawn timer to go down, or wait for a game to start, now here lies the problem, after alt tabbing the screen becomes slightly whiter and when I alt-tab back in, all I get is a black screen. 11.7 it is for me, :D

11.8 seem to be working well. I noticed a 3 FPS increase in Crysis 2 which is not bad. No graphical glitches or anything on all the games that I have tried. So far so good!

11.8 is great for me so I can almost max out crysis 2 at 1366x768 in dx11 and it resolves the screen tearing.

    Stop Using Driver Sweeper
    Stop Using Driver Sweeper
    Stop Using Driver Sweeper
    Stop Using Driver Sweeper

Driver Sweeper is unnecessary and can cause more problems than not. For instance, anyone who used older versions of Driver Sweeper were unable to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 because it deleted several required files, the repair process was very lengthy or one could choose to do a Windows reinstall. No program should EVER break the updating functionality within Windows. While the bug has since been fixed, it also begged the question why we were even using Driver Sweeper in the first place and whether or not it was really necessary. It is not.

All you simply have to do is install a the new version of Catalyst over your old version and the new version will automatically uninstall the old version with only one reboot required. This is AMD's recommended driver updating method.

If you wanna feel safe, you can just uninstall the older drivers, reboot and then install the new drivers, regardless which method you use, Driver Sweeper is NOT necessary and NOT recommended.

Well, a good number of us including myself never got a working in-place upgrade.

Even the normal AMD express uninstaller left behind files and entries that caused us some weird issues as well.

For me, they were simply resolved by finding, deleting those (Driver Sweeper made that process alot faster) and then install the newer drivers.

I know what in-place updates does. I been flirting with AMD just as long as you. :)

Been though several x600ish generations (also a couple of x800ish) and different chipsets ... still got weird video behaviors with in-place update where a real clean install works just wonderfully.

I used to manually remove files and entries before but when I discover Driver Sweeper, made that process so much faster.

I wish I could afford being an Nvidia Fan :p

lol, I remember the Catalyst push when it first started, to clean up the ATi Rage driver mess :p wasn't an nVidia fan until the 9000 series :p For those who think AMD/nVidia drivers have issues today, you haven't seen the old Rage drivers. That's where all the ATi driver hate stems from, I think.

What I'll do is I will uninstall the existing card from the device manager and tell Windows to delete the driver files when it does so. That's always been safe for me, and will get you to that clean system state eventually ;) I just keep deleting them until it detects it as only a generic VGA card. Then you're free to install whatever driver you want.

I know a large part of it even during Catalyst days was due to weird OpenGL and Direct3D bugs. Things that just kinda randomly happened. AMD/ATI has gotten much better about their driver quality lately, though. I've got an OpenGL programmer friend that can go on for hours about how the ATI drivers caused him headaches :p

Don't want to sound stupid... I have updated drivers dozens of times but I never can remember the correct way. It's especially confusing when after a restart of uninstalling driver, windows installs a new driver and then I try removing that one and then I get confused. So I uninstall, driversweep, restart, install, restart? Is that the right order? Lol you probably thinking I'm really stupid to not know how to update a driver.

Just do an in-place upgrade, it's quick and easy. I've been doing this since 11.4 and it's caused me no troubles.

I used to do all the CCleaner, Driver Sweeper crap but now with newer drivers it really isn't necessary to go through all that work.

Tell me about it! I always dreaded new driver releases cause of the long process to install new drivers. After reading somewhere that Catalyst drivers were intended to be installed over previous versions, I tried that and haven't looked back since.

Oh really? Please tell where does it say that. This is directly from AMD support page explaining how to upgrade drivers. No where does it say, install over old drivers. It says clearly in step 3, Uninstall ALL drivers, ATI and Legacy or any applicable.

    For Windows 7. Dated 9/28/2010

GPU-33: Graphics Driver Installation Instructions for Microsoft Windows 7

It even has pictures, screenshots of step by step instructions on how to UNINSTALL YOUR OLD DRIVERS, before installing new ones! I would agree you don't need to do driver cleaner, driver sweeper or even CCleaner. But if you want to give someone advice on how to install new drivers, I suggest telling them what AMD really says. And what AMD really say is, uninstall your drivers like you normally do from programs uninstall menu and do express uninstall which uninstalls EVERYTHING related to AMD/ATi drivers.

And if you have any issues, Terry Makedon (The creator of ATi Catayst Drive Suite) recommends uninstalling in safe mode before installing new drivers. He's said that in a few tweets.

I have been using an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 in my laptop. I've tried to unistall drivers and clean up the AMD, ATI, and ATI Technologies folders that are created only to royally mess things up and (due to system restore never working) have to reinstall my entire OS in order to get the system to work and recognize any video driver. How do I use the Drive Sweeper software?

Also, my method for install is to download the small under a MB file from AMD directly, I run this to download the Vista 32bit package, I delete all the files from the first install. Now I install this new 60MB package (I think it is the same as the ones linked in the op), this makes a folder in C:\ATI for the Install Manager, when the Install Manager runs, it creates two folders located at C:\Program Files\ATI and C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies. Am I able to delete the folder located at C:\ATI ?

Or in reality, should I not update my vid driver and CCC software anymore since I have such an old video card?

Yeah, but just do that for when you're updating drivers and turn it back to normal after you're done.
